A drive is getting footing to place a giant cross, similar to the 120’ cross in Winona, near the intersection of Highways I-55 and 6/278 in Batesville, according to longtime Batesville resident Dr. Deck Stone.

Stone said his daughter, Carol Anne Lightsey, will be helping get the word out about the project.
Stone thinks the project should be a community-wide effort with local churches participating. He said he is seeking meetings with a property owner in the area where he envisions the project being placed.

“We will need about a half-acre,” Stone said and hinted that some arrangements and communications have already transpired with a contractor responsible for erecting similar structures who has placed them elsewhere.

“We will have a lot more particulars to discuss later,” Stone said about the proposed project.
