Despite the rain, teachers, public officials, students and members of the community gathered at Batesville Elementary School Tuesday night holding hands in prayer after losing the historic building that burned Friday into Saturday morning destroying 17 kindergarten classes. Before prayer, Principal LaSherry Irby told parents, students and faculty, “It doesn’t take a building to educate children. It takes a loving and caring teacher to continue to teach from the heart and make learning fun. It doesn’t matter what building we are in. We are still going to take care of our babies no matter what to make their year run smoother than ever.” Classes will start August 6 with Batesville Elementary Pre-K students and first graders i the first grade building on BES campus. All BES kindergarten classes will be held at the Middle School. Those kindergarten teachers and students will occupy the fifth grade wing of Batesville Middle School.

The Batesville Elementary Booster Club Facebook lists classroom supplies for teachers that can be dropped off at “The Hub” located at 131 Public Square (the former Coker Heating and Air Office, next to Stubbs) open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Hub will also be open July 23-23 and July 27-30 and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. For those who need to make different arrangements for delivery time can call Ashley Drumheller at 934-3489 or e-mail ashleydrumheller@hotmail.com.
