Maurine Bates
SARDIS––Maurine Bates, 93, died Monday, July 13, 2015 at North Delta Hospice in Southaven.
Services were held Wednesday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in Red Bay City Cemetery. Ray Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Bates, born June 8, 1922, in Red Bay, Ala. to the late Priscilla Ray and Hardy Alverson, was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie B. Bates, and one grandson.

Survivors include: one daughter, Donna Wilson of Houston, Texas; one son, Jan Bates of Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Keith Alverson of Houston; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.  
 Memorials may be sent to Sardis United Methodist Church. 

Fred Davidson
SARDIS––Fred Davidson, 69, died Sunday, July 12, 2015, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Longtown Church of God. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held today 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Davison, born March 24, 1946, in Sardis, to the late Eddie Davison and Willie Mea Davison, was owner of Davison Upholstery.

Survivors include: three daughters, Karen Spearman of Horn Lake, Yvonnie Bateman of Nesbit and Chrystel Miller of Senatobia and nine grandchildren.

Michael Dawidow
POLAND–Michal “Mike” Dawidow, 62, died at his home in Sopot, Poland, Monday, July 13, 2015. He is the husband of 41 years to Molly Lipe Dawidow, formerly of Batesville.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Sopot Church of Christ with Marek Dawidow and Ed Wharton officiating. He will be interred in the family crypt in Sopot.

Born in Gdansk, Poland, to the late Walenty and Anna Dawidow, he was an evangelist for Churches of Christ in Eastern Europe and an elder of the Sopot Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ray Lipe “Mikey” Dawidow.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his daughter, Annabelle Dawidow, of Sopot; two brothers, Boguslaw Dawidow of Sopot and Warsaw, and Marek Dawidow of Bartlett, Tenn. He was the son-in-law of the late Ray and Belle Lipe of Pope.

Larry Lipe of Baton Rouge, formerly of Batesville, will be travelling to Poland to represent Mike’s American family and friends who cannot attend.

Larry Market
COLDWATER—Larry Market, 62, died Monday, July 13, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Larry Key will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge.

Market, born Oct. 8, 1953, in Courtland, to the late Dallas Market and Louise Avant Market, was disabled and a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Eric Holmes, Andrell Holmes and Arick Holmes, all of Courtland and Kentry Holmes of Como; two daughters, Toshia Holmes of Courtland and Kamisha Holmes Callicutt of Coldwater; seven brothers, Luther Taylor and Steve Market both of Lambert, Robert Lee Market of Batesville, Billy Market of Memphis, James Market and Lee Market, both of Courtland and Earl Market of Oxford; three sisters, Martha Market of Courtland, Mary Pough of Milwaukee and Emma Benson of Pope; and 12 grandchildren.

Bernice Nell Johnson McKinney
BATESVILLE––Bernice Nell Johnson McKinney, 86, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Power House Church of God in Christ. Pastor Leon Gaston will officiate. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.

McKinney, born May 25, 1929, in Batesville, to the late Xerxes Johnson and Addie Bell Bishop, was a homemaker and member of Power House Church of God in Christ. She was on the Mother Board and president of Home and Foreign Missions.

Survivors include: four daughters, Helen Pratcher, Deborah Perry, Lesia Smith, all of Memphis and Diann Milam of Evanston, Ill.; five sons, Larry McKinney of Batesville, John Henry McKinney of Courtland, James McKinney of Como, Andrew McKinney of Chattanooga and Dewayne McKinney of Tulsa, Okla. and two brothers, Willie Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas, L.C. Johnson of Detroit; 40 grandchildren and 15-great-grandchildren.

Mary Gay Selby
MARKS––Melony Gay Selby Gentry, 55, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in Marks.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015  at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Marks Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home, who has charge.

Gentry, born to Travis Selby of Marks and the late Anne Selby, was a homemaker and a member of  Faith Baptist Church in Lambert.

Survivors in addition to her father, include: her daughter, Ceasley Channing Gentry of Marks; sister Tammy Selby of Marks.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Timothy Julius White
BYRAM—Timothy (Tim) Julius White, 73, formerly of Batesville, died at his home Thursday, July 16.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home.

A retired truck driver and security guard, he is survived by his wife, Sandra White of Byram; four daughters, Tammy Torres of Las Vegas, Tessia Clements of Byram, Timmie Jean White of Memphis and Ora Rose Tillman of Crenshaw and one son, William White of Batesville.

Gennett Shaw
CHICAGO––Gennett Shaw, 68, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Chicago.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Courtland. Rev. Tammy Herring will officiate. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Shaw, born March 20, 1947, in Courtland, to Annie Ford Herring of Courtland, was a retired postal worker.

Survivors, along with her mother, include: daughter, Bobbie Nell Wright of Chicago; two brothers, Jerry Ford of Courtland and David Lee Herring of Oakland; five sisters, Tammy Herring and Dorothy King, both of Courtland, Mary Parker of Oklahoma City, Okla., Helen Herring of Cordova, Tenn. and Glory Davis of Edmond, Okla.
