ATV accident remains under investigation

When authorities arrived at the scene on McNeely Road where an ATV accident had been reported about 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the victims were gone, the ATVs were gone and all that remained for firemen from the Bynum Volunteer Fire Department to clean up was unrolled, blood-soaked paper towels.

Witnesses said that two ATVs were traveling south at high speeds on McNeely Road just south of the Eureka Road when the ATV in front with an adult and a child passenger suddenly slowed. The ATV following, carrying one adult, either could not slow down or did not see the vehicle in front reduce its speed.

The collision injured all three who were soon taken away for treatment in private vehicles.
“There wasn’t a four-wheeler or a patient on the scene, just remnants,” Panola County Emergency Management Agency Director Daniel Cole said.

Panola County Deputy Sheriff Mike Davis said that he located the three male victims, one 27, one in his 30s and one age four, in the emergency room Merit Health Batesville, formerly Tri-Lakes Medical Center. They were treated for minor injuries and released. No charges have been filed pending further investigation, Davis said.
