Staff report
Investigators continued to seek answers this week following  a shooting incident Sunday that left a child injured.
Hunter Morris, 2,  was injured from flying glass after a gunshot shattered a window in the vehicle in which he and his parents were riding Sunday evening near their home in the Coles Point area, near the Panola/Lafayette line.
Soon after the incident was reported, the Panola County Sheriff’s Department was looking for two white male suspects. At press time Thursday no charges recorded at the jail.

Therese Apel of The Clarion-Ledger reported Nicole and Josh Morris and their son were headed home after a day of swimming and looking at boats at the lake.

As they were riding down Roberson Lane their vehicle was shot, shattering the backseat window beside Hunter, piercing Nicole’s headrest, with the bullet ending up in the driver’s side mirror, according to The Clarion-Ledger story.

As they turned around to leave the area, they were shot at again, the CL story said, but this time there was no damage to the vehicle.

Bullets allegedly came from a house less than a mile from the victims’ home.

“We’re terrified. We can’t sleep, I’ve hardly eaten anything, and in that moment you’re not even thinking,” Nicole told Apel. “I was literally blanked out, I don’t think I fully comprehended what happened until the hospital.”

The Morrises have been staying with friends until the alleged shooters are taken into custody. Nicole said she doesn’t know him (the shooter) personally, and she doesn’t want to.
