Batesville police are investigating a Friday night burglary that netted the burglar a Samsung Galaxy phone and two juice jugs filled with quarters.
The victim told Batesville Police Department Patrolman Brandon Urban that when she returned to her home in the Panola Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive about 12:35 a.m. Saturday from her job, she found the front door deadbolt unlocked.
“She always locks the deadbolt before leaving her residence,” Urban’s report stated.
Inside she found that her bedroom window had been broken. The missing jugs containing about $300 worth of quarters had been put inside a green “tote” and placed in a bedroom closet, the victim told police, including Lt. Ruby Myers and Sgt. Richard Lott, who joined Urban at the scene, as did Detective Jeremiah Brown.
The victim placed the loss at about $380, according to Urban’s report.
Another resident of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive reported to police that her Stihl weed trimmer had been stolen from a storage building at her residence. The victim told Patrolman Eric Conlee that she had placed the model FS56RCE weed trimmer in the shed on Wednesday. When she returned to the storage building on Saturday, it was missing, according to Urban’s report.
“The weed eater was chained but the chain was still in tact and the lock was locked back,” the officer’s report continued.
The value of the loss was placed at $219.95. The Stihl weed trimmer’s serial number, which was redacted in the report submitted by BPD, was entered into the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC).
Also on Saturday, a Walmart employee returned to her vehicle in the parking lot to discover that a burglar had broken in and stolen a Pioneer CD/Radio from the dashboard.
The victim told Patrolman Will Parrish that her vehicle was secure at 1:30 p.m. She discovered the break-in at 5:20 p.m. She placed the value of the Pioneer CD player at $250 and the value of about 20 CDs that were also missing at about $300. Again, the serial number of the missing CD player was redacted in the report.
Anyone with information that will lead investigators to the people who stole these items is urged to contact the Batesville Police Department at 563-5653. The caller does not have to give his or her name.
