Red Sox tops A’s in Legion ball 5/5/2015

Blaine Ware doubled and singled and drove in three runs to help guide the Red Sox to an 8-1 win over the A’s Thursday night to round out the opening week of American Legion Summer League baseball play.
Ware also struck out six of the first eight batters he faced in two innings of work on the mound. Lige Simmerman and Luke Noah fanned five each over the next four innings while limiting the A’s to seven hits.
The Red Sox (2-0) rapped out six hits in the contest as Simmerman added a pair of singles and drove in a run. Kyle Campbell and Eli Standard provided singles as the Sox led 4-0 after three innings of play before blowing the game open with a four-run sixth inning.
Hunter Hudson’s RBI single in the sixth to drive in Caleb Capwell accounted for the A’s lone run. Cade Pitcock added a double while Gavin Towles, Capwell and Chris Brown all collected singles. Ryan McCormick, Taylor Hawkins, Anderson Wilder and Braden Locke towed the rubber for the A’s.
Royals 9, Yanks 2
In the opening game of the day, the Royals kept pace with the Red Sox at 2-0 with a 9-2 victory over the Yankees. Ford Wilson registered two singles and drove in a run as the Royals scored in every inning.
Braydyn Lee also chipped in with a pair of singles while Caleb Lantern, Jay Potts, KeShaun Lantern and Luke Daniels contributed with singles. Jeremy Taylor drove in a run with a RBI groundout in the second.
Bo Williams paced the Yankees at the plate with two singles while Gehrig Griffin and Hunter West added singles. Caleb West and Williams scored both Yankee runs.
