Local tracksters advance to state 5/5/2015

After advancing to the north state tournament, the North Panola and South Panola track teams found even tougher competition. However, some members advanced to state this weekend in Pearl.
North Panola
Shanique Burnette placed third in the girls 800-meter run to advance to the state meet Friday.
Lateijah Ruffin was in eighth place in discus and did not advance. The girls 4×100-meter relay team of Glover, K. Webb, Toliver, and Sanders also did not advance with a seventh place finish.
In the boys events, Devonta Brassell advanced in four events. He jumped his personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 45’, 10.5” and is the North Half Champion. He was also champion in the 300-meter hurdles.
Brassell was second place in the 110-meter high hurdles and second in long jump.
Derian Ferrell placed second in shot put to advance to state.
The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Deante Sipp, Justin Connor, Virgil Jones and Darius Thomas placed fourth to advance.
South Panola
Chris Felix is the only trackster that advanced to the state in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.37. He will compete Saturday.
Participating in the North State were Felix, 100 and 200-meter dashes, Jaterrica Amos, 100-meter dash; Michaela Carr, 200-meter dash, girls 4×100-meter relay team, boys 4×100-meter relay team, James Johnson, long jump, 18’9.25” and Jamichael Robinson, triple jump, 40’2.50”.
