OAKLAND–Wayne Anderson, 73, died April 29, 2015 at North Delta Hospice in Southaven. A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Born September 29, 1942 in Memphis to the late Everette W. Anderson Sr. and Margaret McCullar Anderson, he worked as a mortgage banker for Percy Galbreth in Memphis. He was of the Methodist faith.
OXFORD–Jessie Earl Draper, 71, a Panola County native and heavy equipment operator for Lehman Roberts Gravel Company, died April 22, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
Funeral services were held April 25 at Mt Gilliom M.B. Church, with burial in church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his spouse, Angie Draper, Oxford; three daughters, Sandra Mitchell, Milwaukee; Lore Rice, St. Louis; Nedra Bost, Chicago; six sons, Robert E. Vaughn, Jessie Carl Draper, Anthony Bost, Oxford; Willie E. Vaughn, Donald Draper and Kenneth Draper, all of St. Louis; one sister, Estella Bledsoe, Batesville; three brothers, James Draper, Batesville; Stanford Draper Jr. and Issac Draper, Sardis; 35 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
BATESVILLE–Lewis “Shake Fondren, 100, died April 27 at his residence. Funeral services will be held May 3 at 2 p.m. At Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis, with Paster Walter Newson Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge. Visitation will be at Cooley’s May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fondren, born Oct. 13, 1914 in Panola County to Jessie Fondren and Clyster Joiner, was a retired school bus driver for the South Panola District and belonged to Mt. Gillion M.B. Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviors include four sons, Alexander Fondren, Bobby Wayne Fondren, George Fondren, all of Batesville; L.P. Fondren of Sardis, two daughters, Clara Black of Batesville and Jean Alston of Wheatley Heights, NY; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-granchildren and two great-great granchildren.
GREENVILLE–Jane Marie French Greenway, 85, died April 27 at Quitman County Nursing Home. She was the mother of Ricky Greenway of Batesville.
Funeral services were April 30 at Mortimer Funeral Home with interment in Lakeview Gardens.
Born February 25, 1930, in Wayside, she was the daughter of the late William Henry French and Tilda Lomax French and was the widow of Billy Greenway.
She was an avid gardener and belonged to Swiftwater Baptist Church.
In addition to her son in Batesville, she is survived by her daughter, Kay Greenway of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Alzheimer’s Association.
CROWDER–James Guest, 52, died April 26, 2015 in Grenada. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Oak Grove M.B. Church in Crowder, with Tanya Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Visitation will be at Cooley’s today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Guest, born March 2, 1963 in Pope to Edward Langford Gleaton and Annie Ards, was disabled and belonged to Deliverance Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include five brothers, Rodger Clarks of Memphis, Rubin Ards of Addison, Texas; Lawrence Guest of Crowder, Willie Richardson of Milwaukee and Kenneth Ray Richardson of Courtland; eight sisters, Shirley Morgan of Crowder, Patricia Jackson of Enid, Casandra Taylor, Annie Richardson, Lois Key and Regina Partee, all of Courtland; Rosie Bland of Senatobia and Juanita Hardy of Memphis.
BATESVILLE–James Willie Harris, 49, died following an automobile accident on Mt. Olivet Road April 25, 2015.
Services will be held Saturday at Cooley’s Mortuary Chapel at 11 a.m. Pastor Irvin Bishop will officiate. Burial will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Cooley’s.
Born July 21, 1965 in Sardis, he was the son of John Willie Harris of Crenshaw and Christine Burdette Harris of Batesville.
Mr. Harris was disabled and was a member of Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Barbere Ann Clark Harris of Batesville; his son Shaunric Clark of Memphis; brothers Earl Burdette and Larry Dewayne Harris, both of Batesville; his sister Jeanette Benner of Batesville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
SARDIS–Sofia Hernandez, 90, died April 25, 2015 at Sardis Nursing Home.
Born September 18, 1924 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to the late Lucio and Mariane Hernandez, she was a homemaker and caregiver for children.
Survivors include her son, Jose Viscencio of Corona, Calif., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private memorial service for Mrs. Hernandez at a later date.
BATESVILLE–James Robert “Bobby” Hudson, 82, died April 22, 2015 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.Funeral services were held April 25 at Hebron Baptist Church in Sardis. Interment was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Terry Tribble officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Born to Robert and Mary Barker Hudson on September 3, 1932, in Panola County, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War and worked for 28 years as a detective for the City of Memphis Police.
He was the past president of the Methodist Men’s Club, speaker and member of the Gideons International, deacon at Hebron Baptist Church, member of the Prison Ministry and also a member of the Retired Police Association.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorene Foster Hudson of Sardis; three sons, Richard Hudson, James Carlton Hudson and Douglas Foster Hudson; four grandchildren, Dexter Hudson, Nick Hudson, Matthew Hudson, Dalton Hudson, two great-grandchildren; Caleb Hudson, Destiny Hudson. Memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital .
BATESVILLE–Robbie Ann Williams Murphree, 81, died April 23, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Services were April 26 at Dickins Funeral Home with the Rev. Terrell McGreger and the Rev. Chris Wolfe officiating. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery.
Born April 22, 1934 in Panola County to the late Ray Wood Williams and Annie Thetford Williams, she was a member of Tocowa Baptist Church and had served as a teacher assistant at Pope School for 25 years.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Loamie Preston Murphree of Batesville; two daughters, Nita Murphree Taylor of Batesville and Christy Murphree Parks of Moscow, Tenn.; one son, Loamie Jesse “Scootie” Murphree of Batesville; one sister, Mavis Hawkins of Batesville; one brother, Hardin Williams of Batesville; six grandchildren, April Tindall, Joshua Taylor, Preston Murphree, Jarrett Taylor, Zackary Parks and Paige Parks; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Grace Tindall and Sawyer Wade Taylor.

COMO–Jautassa Rosita Sims, 63, died April 22 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She was a factory worker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Visitation will be today from 4-7 at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Elijah Sims Jr. of Como; her daughter, Kimberly Patrice Sims of Senatobia; her son, Christopher Michael Sims of Como; two sisters, Lois Thomas of Memphis and Patrice Scott of Greenwood; one brother, Michael W. Starks of Como.
SARDIS–Dennis Clark Turman, 57, died April 27, 2015 at Delta Hospice House in Southaven. He was a member of Church of Christ.
Mr. Turman is survived by one son, D.J. Turman of Panama City, Fla.; his parents, Peggy C.Turman and Dave Turman of Sardis; one sister, Jan Herring of Oxford; one brother, Randy Turman of Sardis; and one grandson.
