Panola County was anticipating some form of wintry weather today, even as Thursday forecasts waffled about the possibility of frozen precipitation.
Warmer, moist air started pushing north from the Gulf on Thursday even as frigid temperatures held the region in its grip. Determining their meeting place and time kept weather forecasters guessing.
At press time, the moisture is forecast to begin to fall as snow or ice about 10 a.m. Friday with the temperature expected to rise above freezing by 1 p.m., with chances of rain steadily increasing for the remainder of the day.
Rain is forecast for most of Saturday and into early Sunday. By midnight Sunday, temperatures are again expected to fall below freezing, the chance of frozen precipitation will increase considerably for Monday.
Early this week, a small ice storm on Monday wreaked havoc on power lines in Panola County and forced North Panola schools to close on Tuesday. On Wednesday, brief overnight snowfall forced all local schools to close.
