Tigers reclaim state crown, topping off memorable year

Panola Countians saw their sons and daughters claim district, state and regional titles in football, basketball and softball in 2014. And they followed their college football teams through a memorable season.

 The South Panola Tigers claimed their 11th state football championship with a 27-21 overtime victory over Oak Grove December 7.

Mississippi State reached the top of the college football world by receiving its first ever No.1 ranking. The Bulldogs remained in the top spot for three weeks before losing to Alabama November 15.

The North Delta Lady Green Wave claimed the District 1-AA basketball title with a victory over Lee Academy.

Ole Miss defeated No.1 ranked Alabama 23-17 October 4 in Oxford.

Eleven local football players signed scholarships on National Signing Day February 4.
Ole Miss edged Georgia Tech 25-17 in the Music City Bowl.

 Mississippi State routed Rice 44-7 to win the Liberty Bowl.

The Batesville 10U Lil Slammers softball team won the Dizzy Dean Softball World Series.
The North Panola boys captured their second straight District 2-3A basketball championship with a win over Independence.

The Ole Miss baseball team reached the College baseball World Series for the first time since 1972.
