Como voters — the 109 who voted — overwhelmingly approved reinstatement of a tourism tax on prepared food and beverage and lodging.
The paper ballots used for the special referendum were counted by 7:13 p.m. Tuesday evening with 94 for the tax and 11 against, an approval percentage of 86 percent. The local and private legislation that authorized the referendum required 60 percent approval for passage.
Consideration of four affidavit ballots cast will come later.
Voter approval clears the way for reinstatement for the tax that was first implemented in a 2010 referendum. The legislation authorizing the original tourism tax included language that allow it to end after three years if not reauthorized. The tax lapsed on June 20, 2013.
