Panola supervisors announced upcoming holiday times following a discussion the previous week whether they were allowed to swap days authorized by the state for those preferred by supervisors.

Supervisors voted 4-1 to approve holidays announced by the governor’s office for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Thanksgiving holiday will be observed Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28.
Christmas will be observed Wednesday and Thursday December 24 and 25.

The New Year’s holiday will be observed both Thursday, January 1 and Friday, January 2.

District Three supervisor John Thomas showed his displeasure with taking Wednesday, December 24 instead of Friday, December 26 by voting against holidays mandated by Governor Phil Bryant. He quipped that he didn’t think the governor would be working the day after Christmas.

Supervisors approved the holiday schedule during Monday’s First District meeting held in Sardis Monday morning.

Supervisors meet again Monday in Batesville for their usual Second District Monday meeting at 9 a.m.
