Newspaper spotlights babies, pastors

Staff report

Cute babies and beloved clergy will be in the spotlight this fall with two special projects being organized by The Panolian. The newspaper’s staff has been busy planning a calendar picturing Panola babies, and a special issue to be published during Clergy Appreciation Month.

Cutest Baby Calendar

Circulation manager Maranda Johnson pitched the idea for the Cutest Baby contest and calendar. Today is the last day to get your snuggle-bunny entered into the contest. Entries will be taken up to 5 p.m.

Rules for the contest may be found in today’s paper on page B9. Entry forms may also be found on the website, www.panolian.com. See the link on the left side or in breaking news.

Also, you may find a entry form on www.facebook.com/ThePanolian.

Photos of all the children entered will be presented Tuesday for the public to vote on favorites. The project is raising funds for The Panolian’s Newspaper in Education program. Votes are 25 cents each.

“So tell your family, friends and neighbors to gather their quarters together and vote for your baby,” Myra Bean, assistant advertising manager, said. “We, as a staff, are excited about this contest.”

The top 12 vote recipients will be the cover kids for the calendars. There is a surprise for the rest of the entrants.

Clergy Appreciation

October is Clergy Appreciation Month and The Panolian wants to celebrate with churches. On October 10, The Panolian will publish salutes to local clergy in the regular Panola People section.

Churches and church members are invited to include a tribute to their pastor by purchasing an ad, specially priced for this edition only. Deadline for inclusion in this special issue is Friday, October 3 at noon. Submit a color photo of your clergy and a message from the congregation telling what your minister means to you.

You can tell what he does as a humble servant that other people may not get to see on a daily basis. Your photo could be of your minister alone, with family or with church family (in the larger ads).

All the necessary information for this edition is located on page A11. Ads will also run in The Panolian ADvantage Wednesday. Letters have been mailed to churches for which The Panolian has correct mailing addresses.

Call Dianne Hadorn at (662) 563-4591 for more information or if you did not receive your letter.

Fall Magazine

The Panolian staff is also in the process of compiling our annual fall/winter issue of Batesville, The Magazine.

Readers can look forward to holiday recipes from Peggy Walker and stories from around the county including Billie Claire Darby and her training of service animals.

Businesses who want to be included should phone The Panolian’s sales consultants at 563-4591 by October 3, if they haven’t already been contacted.
