The work session will precede a public hearing on the city’s 2015 budget that will begin at 6 p.m.

The city received 25 applications for the position by the August 29 deadline, City Clerk Susan Berryhill told the mayor and aldermen at their Sept. 2 First Tuesday meeting.

Aldermen in August voted unanimously to make the position of fire chief full time. Current Fire Chief Tim Taylor has served as Fire Chief in a part-time classification since 1989. He also works for the U. S. Corps of Engineers. Taylor has indicated that he will apply for the full-time position.

Mayor Jerry Autrey said that he expected aldermen to vote to close the meeting and enter executive session while applicants are considered. No selection is expected from Monday’s meeting.

“We’ll be talking; it’ll be an elimination-type approach,” the mayor said, as aldermen select a limited number of the most promising applications.

City officials expect to make their selection by October 1.
