Memphis motorist has ‘Eureka’ experience after tire malfunctions

Leaving Memphis early Saturday morning, we experienced car problems with our rental vehicle:  The  tire pressure gauge suddenly plummeted and we had to immediately pull off to find a place to re-inflate the tire.  What we soon found out was that the tire was about to BLOW because of a huge hole in it!

We encountered a young man at a gas station/store south of Batesville.  (Didn’t get his name!)  He plugged our tire enough to get us back on the road.

We called the rental road service hotline and were directed to a Gateway Tire store to have the tire fixed. And that is where we had our “Eureka” experience.

Long story short,  those men:  Doug Dunlap, Brian Hitchcock, Brandon Smith and we can’t leave out the “real fix it guy” – Johnny Hamilton – made sure that we would be safe on the road.  It was determined that there was a bad seal (or something) on the tire and that it would just be “downright dangerous” to continue to the Gulf Coast with a “fixed” tire.  We had to buy a NEW TIRE for a rental car!

This was not about them making a few extra bucks.  Believe me, they had more than enough business to cover their overhead that morning.

Yes, we missed an important trade show event in Biloxi, but, thank you Doug Dunlap, Brian Hitchock, Brandon Smith and Johnny Smith for helping to avert what could have been a real tragedy – a blowout on the expressway.
