Jeffery “Jeff” Scott Capwell

COURTLAND––Jeffery “Jeff” Scott Capwell, 52, died Friday, May 30, 2014, in Courtland.

Services were held Sunday at Pope Baptist Church in Pope. Wells Funeral Home had charge. 

Capwell, born August 3, 1961 in Batesville, to Earl Wayne and Billie Jean Brown Capwell, worked many years as a landscaper and was a member of Pope Baptist Church. 

Survivors along with his parents include: two daughters, Amanda Larai Capwell Putman of Pope and Madison Angel Coalburn of Enid; two sons, Jeffery Scott Capwell Jr. of Pope and Matthew Zachary Brown of Enid; three brothers, Ernie Capwell of Batesville, Joey Capwell and Tony Capwell, both of Pope; and three grandchildren, Kelsey Capwell, Daniel Putman and Alexis Putman.

Johnny Hallmark

COURTLAND–– John Wesley “Johnny” Hallmark, 64, died Friday, May 30, 2014 in Courtland.

Services were held Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. 

Hallmark, born March 8, 1950, in Memphis, to the late Carl Clarence Hallmark and Ruth Maxey Durham, was a retired truck driver and dispatcher for a trucking company.

Survivors include: his daughter, Sonya Hallmark Campbell of Millington; one son, John Cody Hallmark of Batesville; two brothers, Tony Hallmark of Columbus and Larry Thweatt of Eudora.


Marie Oliver

BATESVILLE––Marie Oliver, 88, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, at her residence.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim’s Rest M. B. Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Thursday at the church from 10 to service time. Pastor Jacob Hentz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Oliver, born Oct. 14, 1925, in Batesville, to the late Lacey Towns and Mae Bell Brown, was a homemaker and a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church where she servved on the Mother Board.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis Oliver of Batesville; four daughters, Annette Bibbs and Mary Frances Rudd, both  of Batesville, Patsy Pearson of Davenport, Iowa, Mae Louise Jones of St. Louis; 21 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. 

Alice Faye

COURTLAND–– Alice Faye Walker, 70, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Friday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Senan Gallagher officiating. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Walker, born Dec. 29, 1943 to the late Mittie Gullick and Arnold Stewart in Marks, was a Communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Community in Batesville. She worked with Bell South Phone Company as an operator and then moved on to become a line crew manager. 

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Ashley Williamson and one grandson, Whitten Graves.

Survivors include: four daughters, Jackie Statham of Batesville, Sandra Goodwin and Kelly Williamson, both of Greenville, Kalen House of Searcy, Ark.; two sons, Stephen Walker of Walnut and Nate Williamson of Grenada; two sisters, Dorothy Morganti of Clarksdale and Martha McGinnis of Haleyville, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
