Claude C. “Bitts” Jennings Jr.
SARDIS–Claude C. “Bitts” Jennings Jr., 83, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Southaven.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Sardis First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlie Simmons and Bro. Hal Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from noon until service time.
Jennings, September 7, 1930 in Memphis, to the late Claude Cammack Jennings, Sr. and Cecil Cameron Jennings, was a retired educator and coach and served on the board for the Mississippi Coaches Association. He was a member of Sardis First United Methodist Church and served his country during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Rosa Lee Jennings.
Survivors include: his wife of 10 years, Grace West Jennings of Sardis; one daughter, Lydia Claire Gustafson of Southaven; two sons, Cameron Jennings of Horn Lake and Webb Jennings of Pheoba; one sister, Jill VanDerDos of Arlington, Va.; and seven granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund.
SENATOBIA–Maudie Herron Whitten, 83, formerly of Sardis, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at her residence.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Senatobia Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home.
She was a member of Senatobia Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alver Meek Whitten Jr. and two grandsons, Gary Rich and Len Rich and her parents, William and Ethel Herron.
Survivors include: daughters, Carolyn Rich, Linda Williams, Betty Kaye Carlisle and Cindy Darby, all of Senatobia; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
