SP Tigers win senior day

Adam Cook recorded three hits and drove in three runs as South Panola celebrated ‘Senior Day’ Thursday with a 7-3 victory over Lake Cormorant. The Tigers (13-12) lost to Kosciusko 8-2 Saturday and will close out its season tonight as they host Pearl beginning at 4 p.m with junior varsity followed by the varsity hitting the diamond at 6 p.m.

Seniors Matthew Williams, Hunter Ivy, Morgen Tubbs, Jesse Pearson, Dashawn Lindsay, Rip Kirk, Cook, Landon Fullilove and Austin Towles along with the South Panola Diamond Girls were honored prior to the varsity contest against the Gators.

Things did not start off well for the home team as three errors on one play gave Lake Cormorant, coached by former South Panola standout Tyler Brewer, an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Tigers quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half to tie the contest at two.
 Mason Wilkerson got things started with a one-out single followed by Lindsay getting hit by a pitch. Kirk and Cook added back-to-back RBI singles off Gator starting pitcher Cole Stewart.
Matt Bumpous gave Lake Cormorant the lead back in the second with an RBI single that  plated Jordan Crouch. The Gators threatenedd to add more runs by loading the bases with one out only to have Tiger starting pitcher Ivy retire the next two batters to get out of the jam.
Ivy scattered four hits over seven innings while giving up three runs (one earned) and striking out six.

South Panola took a 4-3 advantage in the third with two runs before adding two  in the fourth and one in the sixth for the final margin of victory. Wilkerson gave the Tigers the lead for good in the fourth with a two-run single that drove in Macen McGee and Fullilove.

 South Panola rapped out ten hits in the game as Lindsay accounted for two singles and three runs scored to go along with two stolen bases. Kyle Weaver contributed with two runs in a pinch-running role. Fullilove, Kirk and Towles registered singles in the victory.

Lake Cormorant came away with a 6-1 victory in the junior varsity contest as Vas Moore and McGee singled for South Panola. Tripp Still gave up five unearned runs in three innings on the mound followed by Ryan McCurdy with one inning pitched.

South Panola Junior High ended its baseball season Saturday afternoon at Oxford with a 2-0 loss to Grenada in the Tri- Lakes Junior High tournament. The Chargers went on to defeat Oxford 7-0 to win the championship.

The Tigers collected three hits in the four inning contest as Luke Daniels, Kyle Campbell and Dalton Barefoot all singled. Daniels took the loss on the mound by giving up two unearned runs on four hits while striking out two in three innings. Chris Brown walked two in one inning of relief work.

South Panola finished the season 3-10 with four rainouts.
