Hospital experience prompts letter of praise, thanks

Too often in life we make choices based on the opinion and recommendation of others. While sometimes these recommendations are helpful, other times we need to take the time to make those decisions on our own.

This became evident to me last week when I was given what I saw as a life or death choice. I was forced to make a choice that went against everything I have ever heard.

All my life I have heard negative things about Tri- Lakes Medical Center. If there was a negative story about the hospital, I had heard it. Based upon these stories I made the decision never to visit this facility.

Last week however, I had no other choice. I was faced with an ailment that needed immediate medical attention and making the attempt to drive to another hospital could have cost me my life.

I entered the door of the medical center with an intense feeling of angst. I didn’t know what kind of care I could expect to receive. I took a deep breath and approached the receptionist at the front desk. To my surprise she was extremely friendly and helpful. This eased my mind.

My pleasant surprise continued as I moved quickly throughout the hospital and encountered nurses, doctors, and specialists who were not only informative and intelligent but they were also friendly and caring.

Even the housekeeper was friendly and we shared a laugh together. Everyone I encountered at Tri- Lakes treated me like a person and they genuinely cared about me and my family. Everyone went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable and well cared for.

This experience has changed my mind and opened my eyes about the consequences of making snap decisions based solely on rumors and stories that I hear. If I had not given Tri- Lakes Medical Center a chance I may not be alive today. I definitely wouldn’t have learned what an excellent facility it is and I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to make it my hospital of choice.

If I hadn’t given the facility a chance I would not have reason to thank all the staff at Tri- Lakes Medical Center for all their excellent care, attention, and compassion, as well as a priceless life lesson.

I will never again make a snap decision based solely on the opinion of others and I advise everyone to heed my advice. You may never know what you’re missing out on.
