Tigers lose lead and game to Grenada 4/18/2014

In what has become a recurring theme for South Panola throughout the 2014 baseball season has once again plagued the Tigers as eight errors led to a 13-5 road loss to Grenada Tuesday night.
South Panola fell to 12-11 overall and 1-8 in district play while the Chargers evened its divisional mark at 4-4 and will take on Warren Central next week in the play-in round of the North 6A playoffs.
Grenada took advantage of three Tiger miscues in the bottom of the first to grab a 2-0 lead. Brandon Williams and Ethan Burke reached on errors to lead off the inning then later scored on a Javorious Redditt single.
South Panola scored all of its runs in the following inning to grab a 5-2 lead. Adam Cook led off the frame with a single then advanced to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. After Jesse Pearson flied out for out number one, Morgan Tubbs struck out but reached first base on a passed ball that put runners on the corners.
Hunter Ivy punched an RBI single through to left side in the infield that brought home the first Tiger run. Two batters later, Landon Fullilove laced a single up the middle to drive in Tubbs and Ivy to give South Panola a 3-2 lead. Macen Wilkerson kept the inning alive by reaching on an error that plated Fullilove from second. DaShawn Lindsay accounted for the final run with a RBI double that plated Gage Aldison.
Lindsay’s double was the last hit South Panola would get until Ivy’s single to lead off the seventh inning as Grenada starting pitcher Shelby Craddock retired 12 of the next 13 batters he faced as the senior right-hander struck out eight and gave up six hits in a complete game victory.
The Tiger lead did not last long as Grenada answered with five runs in the third to take a 7-5 lead. Burke’s RBI single along with Steven Sanford’s two-run single highlighted the inning. Grenada tacked on two more runs in the following inning on a Josh Greer two RBI double. Greer would later add another double in the sixth to produce an additional two runs.
Grenada doubled up South Panola on hits 12-6 as Will Jordan and Williams chipped in with a pair of singles. Fullilove and Ivy led the Tigers at the dish with two singles each. Starting pitcher Austin Towles gave up nine runs (three earned) on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Chase Durham surrendered four runs on four hits while striking out three batters in 2.1 innings of relief.
Hunter Bryant tossed five innings of two-hit ball as the Tiger junior varsity came away with a 4-1 victory. Kyle Weaver collected two singles for South Panola while Durham, Cole Rotenberry and Chris Casiday delivered singles.
South Panola hosted Lake Cormorant last night and will entertain Kosciusko tomorrow at 2 and 4 p.m. before closing out the season Tuesday at home against Pearl with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. after the junior varsity game at 4 p.m.
