Law enforcement officials, acting on information provided by a citizen who lives in northern Panola County, arrested a 24-year-old parolee for a shooting in Como last week.
Panola County Chief Deputy Chris Franklin said that Jermichael Korveil Edwards, 321 Church St., Como was captured in Tate County after a brief chase.
After receiving the tip, the Panola County Sheriff’s Dept. contacted the U. S. Marshalís Service whose officers went to the Tate County address that had been provided.
“He ran into the woods but was apprehended after a brief chase,” Franklin said.
Edwards is charged with aggravated assault. He was detained for the Mississippi Dept. of Corrections for violating conditions of his parole from a previous conviction of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, the chief deputy said.
Edwards is alleged to have shot Bobby F. Boyce of Como on Nov. 14 at the Como Apartments. The shooting triggered a jurisdictional dispute between Como Police Chief Earl Burdette and Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby that attracted the attention of regional media.
The shooting was the latest in a series that have involved members of rival gangs. Boyce had been arrested, charged but not indicted in the Aug. 23 shooting that killed Roderick Bobo near North Panola High School following a football game. He had been released after the grand jury did not indict him.
