Ann Hall

BATESVILLE–Ann Edlin Hall, age 67, died Saturday, October 26, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services were Monday, October 28 at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim McMillen and Reverend Rusty Robertson officiating. Interment followed in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born August 7, 1946, in Sardis to the late Lonnie Clayton Edlin Sr. and Cora Dell Appleton Edlin, she was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She had a love for the outdoors that included hunting, fishing, and flowers. 

Survivors include her husband, Larry Hall of Sardis; daughter, Laura Hall McGee of Pope; son, Mike Hall of Olive Branch; three sisters, Jane Edlin Hill of Senatobia, Kay Edlin Goforth of Batesville, Cammie Edlin Simmerman of Sardis; brother, Lonnie Clayton Edlin Jr. of Sardis; four grandchildren, Sydney Claire Hall, Skylar Young, Maryn McGee and Macen McGee.

Elnora Johnson

BATESVILLE–Elnora Johnson, 81, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at her Armstrong Street residence in Batesville.

Funeral services are today (October 29) at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Asa M. B. Church. Interment will be at that church’s cemetery and Cooley’s Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Pastor Louis Wilson will officiate.

Born June 21, 1932, in Courtland to the late Marshall and Bulah Harris Johnson, she was a homemaker and seamstress and member of Spring Hill Asa M.B. Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Lular Johnson Calvin of Batesville and Minnie Johnson Boothe of Sardis, and a brother, Mack Johnson of Batesville.

Cecil Shorter

BATESVILLE–Cecil Shorter, 94, died at his Central Academy Road residence October 15, 2013.

Funeral services were held October 22 at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church on Terza Road near Batesville. 

Interment was at Bluff Springs Cemetery and Rev. L. C. Smith was the officiating minister. Henderson Funeral Home of Sardis had charge of arrangements.

Born May 23, 1919, in Batesville, he attended schools in Panola County and was a member of Bluff Springs M.B. Church.

He is survived by two sons, Alvah D. Sanders and Jimmie Shorter, both of Sardis; a daughter, Eva Roberts of Sardis; two brothers Odell Draper Sr. and Otto Middleton, both of Batesville; a sister, Ella C. Fondren of Batesville, 15 grandchildren and 20 great- grandchildren.

Robert Wayne Sumner

SARDIS–Robert Wayne Sumner, 53, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, at his residence in Sardis. A memorial services will be held at a later date. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home in Oxford had charge.

Sumner was a farmer. 

His survivors include his daughter, Shae Homer, Batesville; six sisters, Stephanie Davis, Water Valley; Cynthia Mills and Janet Morgan, both of Crowder; Vickey Melton and Francis Bundrum, both of Batesville; Sandra Gentry, Oakland; three brothers, Joseph Davis, Charleston; Edward Davis, III, Tampa, Fla.; Amos Davis, Batesville; and four grandchildren.
