Freddie Merle White Anthony

HERNANDO– Jo Ann Garner, 90, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at her residence.

Services were held Monday, September 29 at Hernando Baptist Church. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley. Brentwood Funeral Home had charge.

Anthony, born to the late James William and Lucy Kate White, was a member of Hernando Baptist Church where she was active in the Joy Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Louis Anthony.

Survivors include: two daughters, Beth Mills of Clarksville, Tenn. and Genie Williams of Hernando; one son, Larry Anthony of Hernando; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hernanando Baptist Church.

Connie C. Bowman

EAST AMHERST, NY– Connie C. Bowman, 62, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Millard Filmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, Ny.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Zannie Leland will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  with family hour 4 to 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Bowman, born Dec. 26, 1950, in Batesville, to the late Roy and Ozell Leland Chapman, was a school teacher and educator for Buffalo Board of Education. She was a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Albert R. Bowman of East Amherst; one son, Andre’ Bowman of Los Angeles; two daughters, Kimberly Bowman of Raleigh, N.C. and Chanda Bowman of East Amherst; four brothers, Johnny Chapman of Como, Dwight Chapman and Robert Chapman, both of Batesville, Lee Chapman of Milwaukee and two sisters, Barbara Chapman and Georgia Chapman, both of Batesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Connie’s memory to The Grace Shallowhorn “Silver Belle” Graduate Scholarship Kappa Upsilon Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. 170 Manhattan Ave. #54 Buffalo, NY. 14215-0054.

Clyde Andrew Brassell

BATESVILLE–  Clyde Andrew Brassell, 63, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Vernon M.B. Church in Memphis. Rev. Dr.  James Netters will officiate. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. with family hour 5 to 7 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and at the church on Saturday 10 a.m. until service time.

Brassell, born Aug. 21, 1950, to Maethella Chapman Brassell of Batesville and the late James Edward Brassell, was an insurance agency owner and a member of Mount Vernon M.B. Church.
Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Nedia Ray Brassell of Batesville; one daughter, Nadia Brassell Clark of Chicago; one son, Seadrick A. Brassell of Memphis; two brothers, James Brassell of Batesville and Eddie Brassell of Washington and five grandchildren.

Dorothy “Dot” Inman Britt

SARDIS — Dorothy “Dot” Inman Britt, 87, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at her residence.
Services were held Sunday at First Baptist Church in Sardis with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis.

 Britt, born September 1, 1926 to Boney Inman and Zannie Ruth Inman was a member of First Baptist Church in Sardis, the Sardis Red One Rook Club and the First Baptist Church Young at Heart Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Bud” Britt.

Survivors include:  four daughters, Gloria Mock of Senatobia, Vicki Pitcock and Jamie Johnson, both of Sardis, and Lana Douglas of Batesville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Circle, Jackson, MS  39206 or Wings Cancer Foundation, 100 North Humphreys Blvd., Memphis, TM  38120. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home – Sardis Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Michael Dewayne “Luke” Lucas

BATESVILLE — Michael Dewayne “Luke” Lucas, 54, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services were held Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home. Rev. Lucian Young officiated.
Lucas, born Sept. 23, 1959, to Violet Rutherford Lucas of Batesville and the late Samuel L. Lucas Jr., was a carpenter and a veteran of the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melissa Ann Lucas.

Survivors include: his daughter, Tiffany Nicole Lucas of Water Valley; four sons, Jessie Wade Dogan of Glasgow, Ky., Joshua Eugene Dogan of Scottsville, Ky., Matthew Dewayne Lucas of Water Valley and Christopher Michael Dodd of Batesville; two brothers, Grady Lucas and Tony Lucas, both of Batesville and six grandchildren. 

Climmie Wilbourn

BATESVILLE — Climmie C. Wilbourn, 85, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Golden Living.
Services will be held Saturday at McIvor M.B. Church. Burial will be in Mt. Level Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge.

Wilbourn was a farmer.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Etta Wilbourn of Sardis; seven daughters, Maggie Black of Como, Little Sis. Wilbourn of Senatobia, Ella Lee Wilbourn, Ella Partee, Elizabeth Jones, all of Sardis, Deborah Taylor and Mary Louise Perry, both of Southaven; 14 sons, Curtis Armstrong, Climmie C. Wilbourn Jr., Jessie James Wilbourn, all of Como, C.W. Wilbourn of Senatobia, Frank James Wilbourn of Memphis, Aron Nelson  and Barry Jones, both of Batesville, Willie Ray Jones, King David Jones, Bobby Jones, Micheal Jones, Clint Jones, Harvey Jones, all of Sardis and Kendrick Jones of Southaven and three sisters, Betty Armstrong of Sardis, Hattie Mae Ware and Lucy Mae Dodson, both of Memphis

Thomas Wood

BATESVILLE — Thomas Jerry “Monk” Wood, 68, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at Drew Cemetery located behind Church of Christ on Hwy. 49 in Drew. James Crutcher and Rayford Ables will officiate. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home has charge.

Wood, born Sept. 2, 1945, to the late Louie and Lela Wood, worked as a paramedic for Sardis Hospital.

Survivors include: one sister, Penny Wood Lewellen of Clarksdale; one son, Lee Wood of Batesville; two daughters, Sany Wood Furniss of North Carolina and Sissy Wood Harris of Sardis; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
