Womble named Air Evac National Pilot of Year

Tony Womble, base pilot supervisor for the Batesville Air Evac Lifeteam base, has been selected as the company’s 2013 National Pilot of the Year. The Pilot of the Year is presented to the pilot who has exceeded job expectations by presenting a professional image, is a team player, demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge and skills, and actively pursues opportunities to promote Air Evac through community involvement. The award was given at the company’s national awards banquet on Saturday, September 21 in St. Charles, Mo.

Tony Bonham, senior director of flight operations for Air Evac, said Womble is a dedicated pilot who excels in every aspect of his job.

“Tony is invested in the Batesville base and the communities it serves,” Bonham said. “He lives out the mission and values of Air Evac Lifeteam, and is well respected not only at his own base, but at many bases throughout the company.”

Womble has served as Batesville’s Base Pilot Supervisor since the base opened in 2006. Bonham said Womble has always managed to help other bases in times of a pilot shortage.

“He is willing to adjust his personal schedule to ensure that his base faces minimal out-of-service time,” Bonham said. “He helps train new pilots and maintains his status of Check Airman. Tony also encourages others around him to take on new responsibilities and be active in the communities they serve.”

Air Evac Lifeteam, an air medical service, provides rapid access to definitive health care for those who live in medically underserved areas. Flight crews are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to the scene of an emergency, or provide transportation between medical facilities. Air Evac Lifeteam currently operates 113 bases in 15 states.
