The surprise birthday party Wednesday may have been in honor of South Panola High School teacher Debbie Fletcher (right), but Fletcher’s grandson, “Fitz,” was the center of attention, greeted here by teacher Laura Bouton. Fletcher has been a science teacher for 38 years, 24 of them at SPHS. For her 60th birthday this week, her family, including sons Vaughan and Joey and husband Cris, arranged to surprise her in the school library with cake and trimmings for the faculty.
She teaches biology, AP biology and human anatomy and physiology.
