Batesville All-Star teams make appearances at World Series

A total of five Batesville softball and baseball All-Star teams competed in the Dizzy Dean World Series last week with three more baseball teams slated to start tournament play this weekend.
The Batesville Braves lost all three games in the 6-year-old baseball division last weekend at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven.

The Braves fell to Northport, Ala. Nationals 18-2 before losing 26-4 to the Hobgood Heat and 13-0 to Sandy Plains, Ga.

In the 9-year-old baseball division, the Batesville Braves compiled a 1-2 record with a pair of 18-4 and 21-0 losses to  the Oregon Park Vipers before downing St. John, La. Warriors 23-14 for their only win.

The 8-year-old Batesville Bash baseball squad opened World Series play Thursday morning and will conclude pool play today at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Greenbrook Park in Southaven.
Also kicking off tournament play Saturday with be the 7-year-old Batesville Sluggers and 10-year-old Batesville Braves baseball teams.

The 11-year-old Batesville Red Wasp advanced to the bracket ‘C’ championship game Monday before dropping a 18-1 verdict to the Grenada Titans. The Wasp defeated Southaven American 14-4 before losing to Grenada 16-9 in a winner’s bracket contest.

Batesville bounced back to down Sharon Springs 15-9 Sunday to earn a berth in the title game.
In softball action, the 8 and under Batesville  Crushers club dropped three of four games at the Greenbrook Softball Complex in Southaven.

Batesville lost 16-3 to the Extreme and 20-7 at the hands of the Shockers before picking up their lone win with a 15-8 victory of the Daredevils. Batesville was then eliminated 12-3 by the Stars.
The 10 and under Batesville Dynasty went 2-2 in World Series play as the defending North State champions defeated Jasper, Ala. 6-1 in an opening round game then lost 11-0 to eventual champion the Elite Friday.

The Dynasty bounced back Saturday morning with an 11-0 shutout of the Steamers then fell to the Bomb Squad 12-1 late Saturday night.
