ENID – Edd Brooks, 74. died Sunday, May 12, 2013.

Services were held Wednesday at Batesville First Assembly of God. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Brooks was a heavy equipment operator for Bennett Construction. He was a member of Willow Springs Assembly of God.

Survivors include: his wife, Doris Brooks of Enid; five daughters, Shelia Durham of Oxford, Louise Gray of Pope, Linda Crocker of Batesville, Sandra Anderson of Tocowa and Susan Tindall of Batesville; two sons, Edward Brooks of Sardis and Terry Wilkins of Horn Lake; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE- Ray C. Chapman, 54, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church. Rev. Melvin Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in church cemetery. Visitation will be held today 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Chapman, born July 20, 1958, in Batesville, to Lillie Pearl Chapman of Batesville and the late Adolphus Chapman Sr., graduated from South Panola High School. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church and a veteran of the Army.

Survivors along with his mother include: his wife, Antionette Chapman of Batesville; four sons, Alfonzo Tucker, Ray Charles Tucker and Toby Tucker, all of Batesville, Jerimah Sanford of Courtland; four daughters, Dephanie Tucker and Teresa Sanford, both of Courtland, Jakesha Hankins and Kesha Market, both of Batesville; brothers, James Chapman, Kenneth Chapman, Aaron Chapman, Adolphus Chapman Jr., all of Batesville and Loney King of Milwaukee; three sisters, Delphia C. Tillman and Pearlene Chapman Anderson, both of Batesville and Emma King and 14 grandchildren.

BATESVILLE – J.C. “Curt” Daniels, 66, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at his residence.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Forrest Memorial Park. Reverend Mark Martin of Austin, Ark., Reverend Joe Aldridge of Jonesboro, Ill. and Reverend Kevin Crofford of Sardis  Wells Funeral Home has charge.
 
Daniels was born March 2, 1947 in Toccapola, in Pontotoc County to the late Ivy Earl and Ola Morris Daniels. He retired with 35 years of service from Illinois Central Railroad with the last 17 years serving as a track supervisor. He was a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Opal Evelyn Pinion Daniels of Batesville; son, Jimmy Wayne Daniels of Cabot, Ark.; daughter, Tamela Violet Daniels Martin of Fenton, Mo.; four sisters, Emma Jean Allen of Toccapola, Myrine Koger of Lambert, MS, Wanda Hall and Nelda Fagon of Toccapola; three brothers, Earl Daniels of Marks, William Daniels of Houlka, Frankie Daniels of Sherman; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

SARDIS – Cora Metcalf Gleeton, 108, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her residence.

Services will be held Sunday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Nehemiah Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Sunday 10 a.m. until service time. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

She was a member of Pope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a deaconess. She was a member of Victory Star No. 121, president of the Usher Board and Stewardess Board. She was also a homemaker.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.Q. Gleeton.

Mrs. Gleeton  was born April 12, 1905, to the late George Metcalf and Rosie Wynn-Metcalf.
Survivors include: five daughters, Melzani Killebrew of Memphis, Myrtle Simmons of Los Angeles, Freddie Hill, Geraldine Gleeton and Burnice Gleeton, all of Sardis; two sons, Elbert Gleeton of Detroit and James L. Gleeton of Memphis; 40 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren and 74 great-great-grandchildren.

SARDIS – Hazel B. Laster, age 84, of Sardis, died Friday  May 17, 2013, at her residence.

Services were held Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Ragan officiating. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Laster was born to Berry and Pearl Floyd Baker on May 15, 1929 in St. Francis, Ark. She was a homemaker and member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands Clarence Lewis and Benny Richard Laster and two daughters, Shirley Temple Lewis and Lucy Self.

Her survivors include, two daughters, Linda Burks of Sardis and Tina Jeter of Pontotoc; three sons, Richard Laster of Long Oak, Ark., David Lewis of Pontotoc, and Brian Lewis of Saltillo; six grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

SARDIS – Ruby Mae Mathews, 78, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Monday at Peach Creek Baptist Church in Sardis.  Steve Phillips officiated. Burial was in Peach Creek Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

Mathews, born Feb. 3, 1935, to the late Clarence Overall and Velma Samuels Overall, was a member of Peach Creek Baptist Church. She was a retired LPN from the Hartley Clinic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mathews.

Survivors include: one daughter, Cynthia Frazier of Abbeville; one son, Gary Sexton of Senatobia and two grandchildren.

BATESVILLE – Loyd M. Myles, 87, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Golden Living Center.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Hal Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time.  Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Myles, born June 10, 1925, to Joe and Ada Alexander Myles, was a retired carpenter and member of Courtland Church of Christ. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Maxine Tullis Myles and Jewel Bay Myles; one daughter, Barbara Myles Allison and great-grandchild, Brittney Allison.

Survivors include: daughers, Shirley Myles Gregg of Pope and Christine Yarbro of Jonesboro, Ark.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
