Temple Lebron Allen, 82

BATESVILLE — Cdr. Temple Lebron Allen, 82, died Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was the husband of Margaret Allen and the father of Temple Crowell of Batesville, Richie Allen, Paul Allen and Donald Allen, all of Calif.

Services will be held Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Dickins Funeral Home has charge. Full obituary information was not available at press time.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Hileman.

Allen, born September 30, 1930, served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and submarine service. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


James C. “Jim” Ledbetter, 66

RULEVILLE — James C. “Jim” Ledbetter, 66, formerly of Starkville, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Ruleville Nursing and Rehab Center.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery, with Reverend Roger Howell presiding.

He was born to Sulpecia B. Esplana and Clester “Bill” Faye Ledbetter on February 23, 1947 in the Phillipines. He was a service station operator who worked many years in Chicago.

Survivors include: his mother, Sulpecia B. Esplana Ledbetter of Chicago, and his step mother, Betty Jo Gore Wiseman, of Oxford.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clester “Bill” Ledbetter.

Ernest William “Will” McLellan V, 23

OLIVE BRANCH — Ernest William McLellan V, “Will”,  23, passed away of sudden heart complications on April 15, 2013.  He was the son of Deputy Superintendant of North Panola Schools, Kay Alford.

Services were held Saturday at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial was in Autumn Woods Memorial Park.

He was born in Oxford, on April 19, 1989, to Kay Alford and Ernest McLellan IV.  He graduated from Olive Branch High School in 2007.  He resided in Starkville where he graduated from Mississippi State University and was in the Masters in business administration. 

He was a past member and participant in the ROTC, as well as the National Guard.  He was a player for the MSU Lacrosse team and had been active in the Baptist Student Union.  He spent one Christmas in China on a mission trip with MSU.  He spent the summer in New York City two years ago participating in an internship at Grandstand Sports Marketing.

Survivors include: his parents, Kay and Randall Alford, of Olive Branch, MS and Ernest and Tonda McLellan, of Vicksburg one sister: Courtney Jackson Clayton of Olive Branch; and two step-sisters: Alecia Mathis and Shelby Nutt.   He is the grandson to Martha Matlock and the late Francis Matlock, as well as Peggy McLellan and the late Ernest McLellan III.  

Clarence B. Overall Jr., 75

SENATOBIA — Imogene Pettit Walters, 85, formerly of Houston, widow of Oren Hugh Waters, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the North Oaks Regional Medical Center.

Services were held  Tuesday, April 16, at Houston Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Richard Mills. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Survivors include: daughters Patricia Mills of Senatobia and Shirley Pittman of Clarksdale and sons W.C. Walters of Cabot, Ark. and Larry and Walters of Batesville; sisters, Virginia Spencer of Mantee and Louise McGee of Houston; brothers, Vester Buck Pettit, I.T. Pettit and Delbert Pettit all of Houston; 7 grandchildren, 18 great granchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Imogene Pettit Walters, 85

William Parks “Bill” Sissell, 87

BATESVILLE —  William Parks “Bill” Sissell, died April 21, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was 87.

Born August 25, 1925, in Water Valley, was the son of John Reuel and Sarah “Sadie” Thomas Brower Sissell. He grew up farming and raising cattle, interests he pursued throughout his life.

A veteran of WWII, he served in the Army Artillery in Germany. Upon discharge he completed his education, receiving degrees from Mississippi State University and later the University of Mississippi.

In 1947 he married Amy Nannette Shipp. They made their first home in Crowder, following farming interests, and it was there at that Bill began his long teaching career.

In the mid-fifties Bill and Nannette moved to Batesville, again, because of farming and cattle interests. He worked for many years in the South Panola School District, teaching high school chemistry and acting as assistant principal and district Title I Coordinator. He served as Panola County Superintendant of Education. In his final years as an educator, Bill taught at Northwest Community College.

Throughout his life, Bill was actively involved in his community. He was a member of Civitan, Friends of the Library, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and PanGens. He was a contributing writer for the North Miss. Herald’s column, “Out on the Mudline” and an honorary ambassador for Water Valley.

Bill was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He served as president of Mississippi United Methodist Men and was named to the Society of John Wesley. He was honored as a lifetime member of the Ole Miss Wesley Foundation Board of Directors. He participated in Walk to Emmaus #127.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Reuel Sissell Jr. and two sisters Lucile Sissell Martin and Ruth Sissell Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nannette and their three children, Nancy Parks Sissell Bridges and her husband, Gil; Susan Frances Sissell Riddick and her husband, Taylor and William Shipp Sissell and his wife, Denise.

Grandchildren include: Melba Major, James Robert Major, Bowen Bridges and his wife, Abbey; William Riddick, Louisa Riddick Whitmire and her husband, Brian; Parker Sissell, and Kristin Sissell McClenic and her husband Steven; great-grandchildren: Harrison Whitmire, Sadie Whitmire and Anne Ruth
Bridges.

Funeral services were held Monday at Dickins Funeral Home.
