Robert Bradford, 64

OAKLAND –– Robert Bradford, 64, died Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parrish Grove M.B. Church in Oakland.   Visitation will held today from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Rev. Grady McKinney Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parrish Grove M.B. Church Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Bradford, born July 4, 1948,  in Oakland, to Ishamel Bradford and Cherry Watkins, was a truck driver for MMC. He was a member of Parrish Grove M.B. Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert Purnell of Oakland, Robert Anderson of Water Valley and John R. Ealy of Memphis; four daughters, Angela Purnell Ahead of Detroit, Cathey E. Barnes and Barbara E.
Jackson, both of Memphis and Tequita Davis of Courtland; one brother, William M. Bradford of Chicago and one sister, Mary Robinson of Chicago.

Peggy Crocker Brown, 65

COFFEEVILLE ––Peggy Crocker Brown, 65, died Tuesday, March  12, 2013 at Grenada Lake Medical Center.  She was the mother of Frankie Brown who works at Crown Cork and Seal in Batesville.

Services will held today at the Goshen Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Goshen Cemetery. Garner Harper Funeral Home has charge.

Brown was born July 17, 1947, to the late Dewitt and Molly Gilmore Crocker. She was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley where she also taught Sunday School for many years.  She was a retired teacher from Coffeeville Elementary where she taught for 28 years.  She was also a retired Avon representative and was loved and cherished by many friends and family members, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors along with her son include her husband, Frank Brown; a daughter, Vickie Scoggins; and two grandchildren, Austin Brown and Hayden Scoggins, all of Coffeeville.  She is also survived by two brothers, Alonzo Crocker and Robert Crocker; and two sisters, Diane Chandler and Linda Farmer all of Coffeeville.

Bernice Dalrymple, 82

BATESVILLE–Bernice Dalrymple, 82, died March 11, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Dalrymple was born July 22, 1930 to William P. and Susie Watson Fisher in Russellville, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of the Batesville First Baptist Church.

She loved to travel with her husband of 62 years, James C. Dalrymple of Batesville. They had traveled to all 48 contiguous states.

Other survivors are her daughter, Kathy Laird of Ocala, Fla; her son, Doug Dalrymple of Columbus; her sister, Sue Murner of Haleyville, Ala.; her brother, Floyd “Rip” Fisher of Corinth; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Sally Fisher, 71

BATESVILLE–Sally Herring Fisher, 71, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Memorial services were held Thursday at Batesville First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Fisher was born in Memphis, Tenn. to Edla and Clinton Herring of Como, Miss.  She attended Mississippi University for Women and the University of Mississippi.  She was a member of the Batesville Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church. 

She served Panola County for 17 years as a Deputy Chancery Clerk prior to her election as Panola Chancery Clerk.  During her sixteen years tenure, she was an active member of the Mississippi Chancery Clerk Association, serving as Treasurer (1996-97), Vice-President (1997-98) and President (1998-99).

Survivors include her husband, Larry W. “Bud” Fisher Sr. of Batesville; three sons:  Bud Fisher, Jr., Clint Fisher, and Clay Fisher and wife Tishia of Batesville; sister Joan H. Russell of Jackson, Miss.; and five grandchildren: Kelsie, Cole, Landon, Lela, and Haylee.

The family requests memorials be sent to the Batesville First United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Will Hayes, 87

ENID — Will Hayes, 87, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Batesville.

Services will be held Saturday at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid. Rev. William Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Hayes, born Sept. 26, 1926, in Tunica, to the late Joe Hayes Sr. and Estella Pearl Jackson, was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Willie B. Robinzine of Enid; seven sons, Louie Douglas, David Louis Douglas and Will Hayes Jr., all of Memphis, Sammy Hayes, Sylvester Douglas and Cylvester Douglas, all of Charleston and Donnel Douglas of Memphis; three daughters, Joyce Hayes of Crenshaw, Lula Mae Hayes of Chicago and Shirley Ann Douglas of St. Louis and one brother, Joe Hayes.

William Thomas Holland, 85

SMITHVILLE—William Thomas Holland, 85, died on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.  Born August 26, 1927 in Smithville, he was a son of the late George and Eva Alred Holland.  He married Lela Scott in 1987.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Mason.  He was a member of the Smithville Baptist Church. 

Before his retirement, he was a farmer and also sold farm implements.  His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and building pea shellers. 

Graveside services were March 13 at the Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville with Bro. Danny Burks officiating.  E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory was in charge of the arrangements. 

He was preceded in death by his wife and his daughter, Debbie Harwell.

Survivors include two daughters, Clara Perkins of Sardis and Pam Bolton of Batesville; one son, Danny Holland of Pontotoc; two sisters, Jessie Sullivan of Tupelo and Yvonne McCain of Walls; one brother, O.C. Holland of Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.  

Jeff W. Johnson, 53

SARDIS–Jeff W. Johnson, 53, of Sardis,, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven.

Memorial services were held Thursday at the Como Church of Christ. Dr. Jim Howard, Ken Sayers, Kyle Hooper and Glenn Bowman officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born in Memphis on December 6, 1959 to Mildred Hill and G.J. Johnson Jr. of Hernando was a member of the Como Church of Christ and worked for Coca-Cola.

Survivors along with  his parents include: his wife, Betty B. Johnson of Sardis; his sister, Jennifer Hill of Hernando and one brother, Don Johnson of Sardis.

Catherine Shegog, 80

POPE–Catherine Shegog, 80, died March 7, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services will be held Friday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church at Enid, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Shegog, a homemaker, was born November 25, 1932 in Yalobusha County to Odie Adams and Mandy McCaster. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church.

She is survived by her daughter Jeanette Coleman; sons, Gale Shegog of Charlotte, S.C., Everette L. Shegog of Water Valley and Len Shegog of Chester, Va.; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Helen Marie Strickland, 56

COMO — Helen Marie Strickland, 56, died at her residence on March 7, 2013. Services will be held Saturday, March 16 at noon at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Como. C.O. Pate Funeral Home has charge.

Born in Sardis April 12, 1956 to Robert Lee Strickland and Bonnie Bess Hobson, Strickland was an educator and a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Kelly Demetrice Strickland and Craig Darnell Strickland of Como; two sisters, Bonnie  Virginia Britten of Toledo, Ohio and Gwendolyn Hailey of Southaven; five brothers, James Harris, Thomas Earl Strickland, Allen Keith Strickland, all of Como; Henry Strickland and Charles Strickland of Toledo; one stepbrother, Ernest Strickland of Fulton, Ky.; two grandchildren, KyKy Austin of Senatobia and Endiyah Strickland of Coldwater. She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kysha Strickland.

Josephine Wesley, 72

SARDIS –– Josephine Wesley, 72, died Monday, March 11, 2013.  Services be held March 16 in Chicago where she lived before moving to Sardis.  A viewing will be Tuesday, March 19 at Cooley’s Mortuary in Batesville from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

On March 20, a memorial gathering will be held at the Viney Creek Church in Sardis from 10-noon. Burial will follow at Viney Creek Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Wesley Sr.

Survivors include: two sons, John Wesley Jr. and Joseph Wesley; one daughter, Monica Wesley; one brother, Percy Wilkerson.  six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
