MEMPHIS–Jessie Ruth Adams, 69, died February 5, 2013. A former resident of Batesville, she was the widow of musician Billy W. Adams of the Memphis Show and Dance Band, and they were owners of Memphis Artists Attractions. She passed away at home after a long illness.
Born in Medina, Tenn. on May 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Frank Rapp Sr. and Mary Flowers Rapp.
She leaves her children, Larry Jackson, Tammy M. Adams, Terrie Gendreau, Mary Thomasson, and numerous foster children including Penny Patterson and Paul Tong; nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, James Rapp, Earnest Rapp and Fred Rapp; two sisters, Marie Land and Betty Cole.
At her request, no memorial service is planned.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Jessie Adams.
MARKS– Elvis Wayne Cox, 56, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at Quitman County Hospital. He was the brother of Brenda Ragon of Batesville.
Services were held Wednesday at National Funeral Home. Rev. Rayford Abels officiated. Burial was in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Cox was born June 29, 1956 to the late Richard Eston Cox and Mabrine Dickey Cox.
Survivors along with his sister include: four sisters, Elizabeth Golden of Marks, Wanda Melton of LuRand, Carolyn Fohn of LuRand, Linda West of Marks; three brothers, James Lee Cox of Sunflower, R.L. Cox and Stanley Cox of Marks.
CLARKSDALE– Alfa Burgos Contreras, 80, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, in Eupora.
Services were held February 5 at the First Baptist Church in Duncan. National Funeral Home had charge.
Contreras was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Contreras.
Survivors include: five sons, Frank Contreras of Tunica, Ben Contreras of Horn Lake, Andrew Contreras of Cleveland, Sammy Contreras and Adam Contreras of Eupora; one sister, Martina Andino of New Orleans; one brother, David Burgos of Louisville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Spanish Mission in Batesville.
BATESVILLE –– Price B. Harrison, 90, died Thursday morning, February 7, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. He was the widower of Virginia Harrison.
Services were held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Ed Temple, Rev. Martin Case and Rev. Pat Ludlam officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Harrison was born on June 13, 1922 in Grenada County, to Louie Vardaman and Montea Abel Harrison. After he graduated from Charleston High School, Price joined the United States Army and served during WWII. He was the co-owner and founder of Harrison’s Furniture Company in Batesville. In 1961 he and Mrs. Virginia opened the store and today, the third generation continues to operate the family tradition with the store located on Highway 6 West.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville.
Survivors include his children: Kay Harrison Nickle and husband, Steve of Batesville, two sons, Stanley Bryan Harrison of Batesville and loving friend Ann McDowell of Batesville; Scott Price Harrison and wife, Mona of Batesville; two brothers, George Jackson “Jack” Harrison of Marks, and Louie V. Harrison Jr. of Winona; and five grandchildren, Virginia Austin Harrison Nutt and husband Joel, Price Pittman Harrison, Monroe Mitchell Harrison, William Harrison Nickle and Bryan Steven “B” Nickle.

BATESVILLE– Joseph “Joe” Powell Gaines, 91, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at his residence.
Services were held Thursday at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Charles Locke officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Gaines, born June 20, 1921, in Coldwater, to the late Jesse Carroll Gaines and Effie Lee Papps Gaines, was a member of Coldwater Palestine Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was the retired store manager for Baddour Company.
Survivors include: his wife of 70 years, Earline Gaines of Batesville; two daughters, Betty J. Fuqua of Baker, Fla. and Jean Poffenberger of Foley, Ala.; one son, Kenny Gaines of Batesville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
BATESVILLE –– Emma V. Jolley, 87, widow of the late Rev. G.E. Jolley, Sr., died Friday, February 8, 2013, at her residence.
Services were held Monday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Jolley was born October 25, 1925 in Flora, to the late George E. and Sarah Eckles Hughes. She was a homemaker and member of Pope Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Ann Jolley of Batesville; son, G.E. “Gil” Jolley Jr. of Batesville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Per Mrs. Jolley’s request, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Pope Baptist Church in Pope.
TUPELO– Jeanette Magliolo Larson, 58, died Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Larson was born Oct. 10. ,1954, in Torrance, Calif., to the late Thomas and Mary Alice Moore Magliolo.
Survivors include: her husband, Leo A. Larson of Horn Lake; daughter, Robin Larson of Horn Lake; son, Christopher Larson of Harrisburg, South Dakota; two sisters, Teresa Magliolo Browning of Batesville, Diane Magliolo of Charleston; two brothers, Thomas Magliolo Jr. of Live Oak, Fla., Paul Magliolo of Lebanon, and three grandchildren.
