The Batesville Tiger 9-and-10-year-old team are the Super Bowl Champs with a 31-6 win over Greenwood Saturday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the Ole Miss campus. Batesville Tigers bring home two Super Bowl trophies

The Batesville Tigers youth football team brought home two Super Bowl trophies Saturday.

The 9-and-10-year-old team defeated Greenwood 30-6 and the 11-and-12-year-old team defeated Marks 37-7.

The 11-and-12-year-olds won last year and in 2009.

9-and-10-year-olds

The game was scoreless going into the second quarter as Greenwood had the ball and was driving down the field. They got to Batesville’s 28-yard line and after a penalty and a series of tackles for loss, Greenwood was forced to turn the ball over on downs from the 32-yard line.

On the Tigers’ first play of the second quarter, quarterback Caleb Grayer found Cardarius Pride, game’s Most Valuable Player, for the 64-yard touchdown with 5:47 left in the first half. The kick failed.

Pride intercepted Greenwood’s pass on it’s next possession and returned it 43-yards for a touchdown with 4:17 left in the half. The score stood 12-0 after the extra point kick failed.

The Tigers went up 18-0 at the half on an eight-yard run by Grayer with 1:14 left in the half. The touchdown capped a four-play 54-yard drive, highlighted by a 34-yard run by Grayer.

The Tigers scored two more runs in the fourth quarter. With 3:45 left in the game Anterio Draper broke for a 66-yard run on the first play of that possession for a 24-0 lead.

The final touchdown was a 48-yard interception return by Christoin Bobo with 1:40 left in the game for the 30-0 lead.

Greenwood avoided the shut out with a kickoff returned for a touchdown as time expired for the final 30-6 score.

11-and-12-year-olds

The Tigers took a 25-0 lead into halftime on four touchdowns.

Stedarrius Sanford scored the first touchdown on an eight-yard run with 5:06 left in the first quarter. Jabari Dean scored the extra point run for the 7-0 lead.

On Marks’ next possession, a Tiger recovered a fumble with 3:31 left in the quarter. Batesville turned it into a touchdown with 1:56 left in the quarter. Dean scored on a 16-yard run but the extra point run failed. Batesville led 13-0 as Marks’ next possession also ended in a fumble which was recovered by Derrick Cunningham Jr.

With no time left on the clock, Dean scored on a 14-yard run for the 19-0 lead as the run failed.

Joshua Butler intercepted a Marks pass with 4:11 left in the half. That led to a 70-yard run by Dean with 3:31 left in the half for the 25-0 lead at halftime.

Dean scored the only Tiger touchdown run in the third quarter with 5:05 left. He scored on a 39-yard run which capped a three-play, 59-yard drive.

Marks avoided the shutout as it put together a nine-play, 71-yard drive to score on a two-yard run with 6:55 left in the game.

Batesville scored one more time on the ensuing kickoff as number 40 returned the kickoff 60 yards to score with 5:03 left in the game for the 31-7 lead which stood as the final score.

Dean was selected as the game’s MVP.
