Two plays. Two touchdowns.

That would basically be all North Delta would need  as the Green Wave scored on their first two plays from scrimmage in route to a 41-7 dismantling of Carroll Academy Friday night in Carrollton.

With the victory, No. 4 ranked North Delta (7-2; 3-0) clinched a share of the District 1-AA championship and with a win over Indianola at home Friday night can claim their third straight division title.

The Green Wave made short work of the winless Rebels in a contest that was played in a lighting-quick one hour and 45 minutes game with a running clock being used in the second half.

Senior quarterback Tyler Pirtle registered 294 all-purpose yards while accounting for four touchdowns as North Delta led 21-0 after one quarter of play and 35-0 at halftime.

After forcing Carroll to punt on its initial possession, it took all of 13 seconds for North Delta to get on the board as Pirtle, who rushed for 146 yards on only three carries, raced 69 yards for the score to give the Wave a quick 7-0 lead after William Dean booted his first of five successful point after attempts.

North Delta would then go to the airways on their next series as Pirtle connected with Austin Hagstrom for a 51-yard touchdown reception to increase the lead to 14-0 following Dean’s PAT.

The Green Wave used a more methodical approach on their following drive as Taylor Morris capped off a 14-play, 83-yard drive with a six-yard run to give the visitors a 21-0 advantage.

Carroll’s offense showed signs of life in the second quarter as the Rebels drove from their own 25 but was stopped cold on 4th-and-2 from the North Delta 20.

From there the Green offense went to work again as Pirtle hit tight end Sam Copeland on a 28-yard pass reception. Two plays later, Pirtle called his own number and raced 42 yard into the endzone to give the visitors a 28-0 lead with 8:21 remaining before intermission.

North Delta would close out first half scoring as Hagstrom and Pirtle hooked up again on a 38-yard pass with 5:15 left to play as Dean drilled the PAT.

Hagstrom led the receiving corps with three catches for 109 yards while rushing for 34 yards on three carries.

“We wanted to come out tonight and work on our passing game a little bit since we did not get to do that last week at Lee because of the weather,” said Green Wave head coach Brandon Ciaramitaro.

“I thought Tyler did a good job getting the ball to our receivers who in turn did a nice job getting open. I have to also give credit to the offensive line for giving Tyler time in the pocket,“ said Ciaramitaro.

Carroll (0-7; 0-3) broke the goose egg on the board  on a 15-yard run by    Justin Farris with 1:28 left in the third quarter. Farris led the Rebels in rushing with nine carries for 34 yards.

Sophomore Bailey Sullivant scored his first varsity touchdown on a one-yard run with 6:50 remaining in the game to close out the scoring for North Delta.

The Green Wave rolled up a season-high 502 yards of total offense while holding Carroll to 194 yards. Morris followed Pirtle in rushing with 90 yards on seven carries. Skyler Lawson added 56 yards on seven carries while Sullivant chipped in with 16 yards on seven totes. Freshman Baker West rounded out the rushing with carry for five yards.

Pirtle finished the night seven-of-nine passing for 148 yards while Lawson connected on one completion for seven yards. Copeland reeled in two passes for 40 yards while Dean Morris and Parker Neth registered one reception each.

Hunter Pitcher led the North Delta defense with four tackles and a quarterback sack. Bradley Booth added three stops while Wilson Morrow contributed with a sack and a fumble recovery. Tyler Beard added his third interception of the season.
