Fresh off a key 35-27 victory last week at Marshall, the North Delta Green Wave continue their three-game road swing tonight as they travel to Marianna, Ark. to square off against the Lee Academy Cougars in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
North Delta head coach Brandon Ciaramitaro is not expecting a letdown from his club after the victory over Marshall.
“We have to continue to play better as a team and play together. I am very excited about the challenge and anxious to see how our team plays after our big win last week. There is a lot of football left to be played and our guys know anything can happen from week-to-week. All we can do is prepare the best way we know how and that is working hard everyday in practice,” said Ciaramitaro.
The Green Wave caught the eye of the statewide media moving into the Academy AA prep poll at No.4 in the state behind Lamar and defending state champion Simpson with undefeated Centreville holding down the top spot.
Lee (0-5) enters tonight’s contest searching for their first victory of the season against the 5-2 Green Wave.
The Cougars will be looking to get their offense on track as they have been out-scored 197-42 on the season. Ironically enough, Lee’s last three losses have come by identical scores of 41-6 to Desoto, Ark., Greenville Christian and Deer Creek with the other losses coming from Tallulah, La. (40-16) and Tunica (34-8).
Directing the Cougar offense will be junior quarterback/linebacker J. T. Evans (5’11”- 195) with sophomore Ty Bosnick (5’10”-155) also seeing time under center.
Senior running back/linebacker Jacob Simmons (5’9”- 165) and wide receiver/defensive back Garrett Moore (6’2”- 165) are the main targets on offense. Colin Love (6’6”- 275) leads the offensive line.
North Delta meanwhile will look to the backfield duo of Austin Hagstrom and Taylor Morris to carry the offensive load.
Hagstrom rushed for a team-high 116 yards and two touchdowns in the victory over Marshall while Morris added 58 yards rushing and scored one touchdown.
While both teammates are tied with six touchdowns on the season, Morris leads the team with 644 yards rushing while Hagstrom has registered 539 yards on the ground to go along with 13 pass receptions for 319 yards and two scores.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior corner back William Dean leads the team with four interceptions on the year.
Through seven games, 15 of the 15 turnovers caused by the Green Wave defense have been interceptions.
