Lelonzo Quendra Andrews


Lelonzo Quendra “Quan” Andrews, 33, died Monday, September  24, 2012 in Batesville.

Visitation will be Saturday from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Eureka AME Zion Church in Batesville and one hour prior to services at Second Baptist in Oxford on Sunday. Services will be 12 noon Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Second Baptist Church in Oxford. Dr. LeRoy Wadlington will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in Eureka AME Zion Cemetery in Batesville. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Panola County, he was the son of Mae Helen Andrews Williams and Robert Earl Williams, Sr. He grew up in Oxford, and attended the Oxford Public Schools. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Oxford where he served as a choir member, on the junior Usher Board, and director of the choir. He was a manager for McDonald’s.

He is survived by his mother – Mae Helen Williams of Oxford; His father and stepmother – Robert Earl (Teresa) Williams,Sr. of Milwaukee, WI; five sisters – Tara Williams-Rudd (Michael) and Shakevia Andrews- Wiley (Kentrell) all of Batesville, Lakesha Holmes of Crowder, Aryannia Williams and Aliyiah Williams both of Milwaukee; one brother, Robert Earl Williams Jr. of Milwaukee; and his grandmother Mary Lee “Aunt Sisiter” Andrews of Batesville.

Shane Aaron Lee

BATESVILLE –  Shane Aaron Lee, 29, died Monday, September 24, 2012, in Memphis.

Graveside services were held Wednesday at Forrest Memorial Park with Rev. Terry Floyd officiating. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include: his wife, Harmony Pittman Lee of Batesville; one son, Daltin Brooks Lee of Batesville; his mother, Joanie Shelly and her husband Richard of Batesville and his father, Donnie Lee of Batesville; one sister, Stacie Fitch of Hernando; half-brother, Tommy Hines of Afghanistan; two step-sisters, Melanie Upton of Batesville and Stephanie Shelly of Sardis, Tenn.

Klara Lee Shannon

ENID –  Klara Lee Shannon, 74, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid. Pastor William Johnson Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Enid. Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Enid. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Shannon, born January 4, 1938, in Gaines Landing, Ark., to the late Cleveland McKenzie Jones and Beatrice Walton Thompson, was a retired factory worker and a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church.

Survivors include: six daughters, Gwendolyn D. Shannon and Sherley Lyons, both of Enid, Cynthia Cole of Sardis, Darlister Cosby and Angelia Martin, both of Batesville and Shirley Cain of Water Valley; two sons, Jimmy R. Shannon of Courtland and James “Al” Shegog of Batesville; five brothers, Harry Walker of Markham, Ill., Jessie Jones of Lake Village, Ark., Sammie Newton of Pine Bluff, Ark., Dorsey Newton of Warren, Ark. and Fred Newton of Little Rock; 33 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Maybel Taylor Stovall

SARDIS –  Maybel Taylor Stovall, 88, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Sardis Nursing Home.

Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Paul Middleton will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemtery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Stovall, born August 7, 1924, to the late Robert Lee and Muggie Tullos Taylor, was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo G. Stovall and step-daughter, Margie Houlgrave.

Survivors include: one son, John D. Kilpatrick and his wife, Marcia of Batesville; step-daughter, Ruth Houlgrave of Shreveport, La.; one granddaughter, Emily Kilpatrick Cochran and her husband, Ryan of Batesville; two step-grandchildren, Laura Whitnell (Pat) of Houston, Texas and Dinah Roach (James) of Shreveport, La.; one great-grandson, Hays Cochran of Batesville; four step-grandchildren, Michael Whitnell, Jim Roachi, Christine Whitnell and Christa Dipaul.

The family asks that memorials be sent to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1505, Batesville, Miss. 38606.


Anthony C. Wallace

HATTIESBURG –  Anthony C. Wallace, 27, formerly of Sardis, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Wesley Medical Center.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter M.B. Church. Odell Draper Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary and Saturday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. at St. Peter M.B. Church Burial will be in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Wallace, born August 6, 1985, in Sardis, to Anthony Leon Clark and Patsy Wallace Fox, was a server for Sweet Peppers in Hattiesburg. He was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church.

Survivors include: his parents, Patsy and Charles Fox of Sardis; grandmothers, Dorothy Wallace of Chicago and Jettie Mae Stevenson of Sardis; two sisters, Charlene Fox and Breanna Wallace, both of Sardis and two brothers, Justin Wallace and Charles Fox Jr. of Sardis.

Joseph Welch

JACKSON – Joseph Welch, 27, died Saturday, September 22, 2012, in Jackson. He attended South Panola High School.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Madison Shannon Palmer High School. Visitation will be held Friday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Delta Burial in Marks. Burial will be in Falcon Cemetery. Rev. Joe N. Williams will officiate. Delta Burial has charge of arrangements.

Welch was born Jan. 2, 1985, in Clarksdale. He was a security guard at Jackson State University and was a Baptist.

He was the son of Morrie Turner of Batesville and Linda Welch of Falcon. Mary Turner of Batesville was his grandmother. Full obituary information will be in Tuesday’s edition.
