Carol Ann Clark Baker


BATESVILLE – Carol Ann Clark Baker, age 34, died on Monday, August 27, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kevin Crofford and Reverend Todd Pittman presiding. Burial was in Sardis Lake Baptist Church Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Carol was born on Sept. 26, 1977 in Clarksdale to William Clay and Shirley Ann Patton Clark. She was a member of Love Joy United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: her two sons, Jason McCord Lantrip, Jr. of Courtland, and Jon Clark Baker of Slaughter, La.; one sister, Lisa Clark Keeton of Southaven and her mother, Shirley Clark of Courtland.

Daniel N. Carroll

BATESVILLE – Daniel N.”Boone” Carroll, 58, of Batesville, MS, passed away Tuesday evening, August 28, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi   in Oxford.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, 9/2/12, at Dogwood Chapel in Aliceville, Ala., with Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. The Carroll family will receive friends at the chapel after the conclusion of the memorial service until 4:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the Aliceville Memorial Gardens.

The family asks that friends attend a visitation held today at the Carroll’s home, located at 1782 Terza Rd., Batesville, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Daniel was born in Aliceville, Ala. on December 22, 1953 to Dewey Cecil and Gladys “Jackie” Lorraine Gilliam Carroll. He was of the Baptist faith and worked as a salesman all his life. Mr. Carroll honorably served his country in the United States Army.

Survivors include: his wife, Vonnie Toliver Carroll of Batesville; one daughter, Angela Clayton of Little Rock, Ark.; one son, Luke Woodruff of Jackson, Tenn.; seven sisters, Kay Carroll Henderson of Mobile, Ala., Glenda Carroll Logan of Northport, Ala., Eva Carroll Patrick of Houston, Texas, Karen Carroll Black and  Sharen Carroll Richardson, both of Carrollton, Ala.,  Carolyn Carroll Durden of Pell City, Ala. and Marilyn Carroll Park of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Cecil Ray Carroll of Northport, Ala. and Ronald Gene Carroll of Aliceville, Ala. and eight grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the following charities: American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Louise Coleman

ENID – Louise Burdeshaw Coleman, 98, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Batesville Presbyterian Church with Reverend Melodie Jones Pointon officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Enid under the direction of Dickins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Coleman was born March 28, 1914 in Enid to the late William Truitt and Caroline Minyard Burdeshaw. She was a member of Enid Union Church and Batesville Presbyterian Church. She was employed as postmaster of Enid, until her retirement. Before returning to Enid, Mrs. Coleman resided at Trinity Retirement Center in Columbus, and Fairfield Assisted Living in Batesville.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Coleman Lott (Bill) of Enid, originally Columbus, Miss. and Connie Coleman Hebb (Joe) of Columbus, Ga.; three grandchildren, Richard Hebb (Jennifer) of Tucson, Ariz., Joanna Hebb of Atlanta, Ga., and Emily Lott Walton (Ched) of Tunica, and two great-grandsons, Charles Edward Walton II and William Mason Hebb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Mitchell Coleman, and sisters, Norma Hughes and Berma McLellan

Levada Young Lawson

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Levada Young Lawson, 74, daughter of Ruby Young of Batesville, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Skyline Alive Hospice Hospital in Madison, Tenn..

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, at Friendship M. B. Church, Inc. in Nashville. Entombment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Melvin Smith Funeral Home has charge.
Lawson was born July 24, 1938 to the late A. B. Young and Ruby Young of Batesville. She was a member of Friendship M. B. Church and a housewife.

She was preceded in death by one sister Wanda DeLean Young.

Survivors in addition to her mother include her husband, Arthur Lawson of Nashville; daughter, Geanette Lawson Brown of Nashville; one son, Arthur Meredith Lawson of Nasvhille; one sister, Carolyn Inez Young of Chicago; six brothers James Young of Denver;  Leland Young of Chicago, Greg Young, Barney Young, Steve Young and Rodney Young, all of Batesville; and one grandchild, Jammal Mozell Brown of Nashville.

Anderson R. Rico

CROWDER – Anderson R. Rico, 90, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at his residence.

Services were held Wednesday at Crowder Assembly of God. Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Rev. Murphy Eubanks and Rev. Clay Pritchett officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Rico, born Sept. 10, 1921, to the late Richard and Asilea Buckner Rico, in McCool, was the retired police chief for the town of Crowder, he was mayor of Crowder for four years and a police officer for 36 years and was on the Crowder Board of Alderman from 2009-2012. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of Crowder Assembly of God.

He was preceded in death by one son, Garland Rico.

Survivors include: his wife, Alice Louise Rico; one son, Richard Rico of Enid; two daughters, Jackie Shaw and Patricia Keeton of Batesville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lavern Emily Jones Rodgers

BATESVILLE – Mrs. Lavern Emily Jones Rodgers, wife of Bobby Joe Rodgers, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at her residence. She was 76.

Services were held Wednesday, August 29, at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rusty Miller officiated.  Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Rodgers was born on April 5, 1936, in Marks, to Frank and Beulah Parish Jones. She worked as the Youth Court Secretary in Quitman County for 30 years. She was an active member of Locke Station Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Joe Rodgers of Batesville; three daughters, Tawana Rodgers Jenkins, Kim Rodgers Darby and Jolanda “Joey” Rodgers Black, all of Batesville; one sister, Doris Jones Pittman of Teasdale, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Danny Wilkie

SENATOBIA – Danny Wilkie, 41, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at his residence.  

Services were held Thursday, August 30 in the Senatobia Chapel of Ray-Nowell Funeral Home. Burial followed in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Vardaman.

Mr. Wilkie was a member of First Baptist Church, Senatobia and a student at Northwest Mississippi Community College.  Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Wilkie of Senatobia; one daughter, Megan Barnett of Senatobia; his parents, Walter Ray Wilkie and Nellie Lantrip Wilkie of Senatobia; three brothers, Gregory Mark Wilkie of Paragould, Ark., Barry Stephen Wilkie of Crenshaw and Bryan Ray Wilkie of Mt. View, Ark.; and one grandchild.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to Baptist Children’s Village, 150 Farrow Manor Drive, Coldwater, Miss. 38618 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
