ND routs West Memphis


Hunter Baker and Taylor Morris scored two touchdowns each while Austin Hagstrom rushed for a game-high 155 yards and one touchdown as the North Delta Green Wave improved to 2-0 on the season with a 46-7 rout of West Memphis Ark. Friday night at West Memphis.

Junior quarterback Skyler Lawson made his first start of his high school career in place of regular starting signal-caller Tyler Pirtle by throwing for 59 yards and one rushing touchdown. Sophomre Bailey Sullivant closed out the scoring with a seven-yard run midway through fourth quarter to add the finishing touches.

Baker got the scoring starting as the freshman linebacker intercepted a Russ Fitzgerald pass and raced 44 yards on the game’s third play from scrimmage with William Dean adding the point after. After West Memphis tied the score at 7-7 on David Lewis’ 54-yard run, Hagstrom and Baker added touchdown runs of 62 and 15 yards to give the Green Wave a 20-7 lead after one quarter of play.

Morris accounted for both of his touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 10 and 25 yards to pad North Delta’s lead to 33-7 heading into the halftime break. Lawson added a 22-yard run with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter that extended the lead to 40-7 following Dean’s PAT.

The Green Wave will travel to Greenville next Friday night to face the defending Class AAA Division II state champion Washington School for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Washington moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 46-6 thumping of Carroll Academy.
