An honor escort was provided by the Patriot Guard, a volunteer motorcycle group, for the funeral procession through Batesville Thursday for Gene Schiele of Lambert. Schiele, a retired master sergeant who had served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, died in a farm accident on August 18. He was buried with full military honors in Crowder Cemetery.
