Renfroe moved to Class A Advanced team

David Renfroe of Batesville was assigned to Class A Advanced Affiliate team Salem Red Sox in the Carolina League, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in Salem, Va. on Monday.

The 6’3”, 200 third baseman played for the Greenville Drive the last year and a half and the Lowell Spinners, Class A Affiliates, since being drafted in the third round in 2009.

After getting moved up Renfroe, 21, boarded a jet Monday to Myrtle Beach and played in the game that night where the Red Sox lost to Myrtle Beach 5-1. Renfroe who played at first base was at bat four times striking out once.

His stats with the Red Sox are 1-for-9 with one hit, one RBI, one walk, one strikeout. He is batting .253.

Before leaving Greenville, he had 10 homeruns this season with a .256 average. He had 355 at bats, 49 runs, 91 hits, 27 doubles, 64 RBIs, 33 walks, 69 strikeouts and four stolen bases.

Wednesday, he had his first RBI with the Red Sox to help the team to a  5-3 win over Myrtle Beach.

“Salem made it 3-1 in the top of the second when David Renfroe picked up his first Carolina League RBI, lifting a sac fly to right field that brought home Sean Coyle,” from the news release of Wednesday’s game.
Salem (21-37) finished the four-game series with Myrtle Beach Thursday and will play at the Carolina Mudcats (28-31) today, Saturday and Sunday.
