A one-month-old infant was severely injured Wednesday by a six-week-old pit bull puppy that had chewed on the child’s ear at a home near Sardis Lake.
The child was said to be in good condition after the incident according to first responders.
The dog was taken from the home by authorities.
The child was rushed by helicopter from a home on Henry Heafner Road to LeBonheur, said sheriff’s investigator Bryan Arnold.
Charges are pending against the parents and the Dept. of Human Services is involved, Arnold said.
Sardis Lake firefighter Lance Fennel said first responders applied trauma pads to the injured ear and applied pressure. They had stopped the bleeding when paramedics arrived, he said.
Fennel declined to describe the injuries to the child’s ear. “It wasn’t good,” he said.
Asked about the child’s injury, Arnold said the ear was “completely removed” during the incident.
