After a week of intersquad practices, the North Delta football team conducted their first major scrimmage of the season against Pillow Saturday morning.
First-year Green Wave head coach Brandon Ciaramitaro liked what he saw out of his club after the nearly two-and-a-half hour session that featured individual work followed by full team controlled workouts.
“I saw a lot of good things today, but we will know more after we look at film. First of all I’d like to thank the coaching staff from Pillow for bringing their guys over here. They are a solid program and we get a lot of work done when we have these type of practices,“ said Ciaramitaro.
The crowd of Green Wave supporters on hand got a possible sneak peek of what to expect during the upcoming season as senior signal caller Tyler Pirtle connected with Austin Hagstrom on a pair of long passes on the initial series by the first team offensive unit.
North Delta’s first team defensive unit looked crisp on the first set of plays against the Pillow offense. Carter Gant made the first big play of the day by stuffing a run on a reverse by the Mustangs. Linebacker Taylor Morris also came up with a pair losses behind the line of scrimmage.
Junior Tyler Beard got into the mix with an interception from his cornerback position.
“We emphasize a lot on being in shape. We are not really ready for game night right now but that is why you do these type of workouts to see where you’re at so far. Like I said before, I saw a lot of good things, but you’re always going to see bad things. Those will get worked out before the season gets here,” said Ciaramitaro.
The Green Wave’s next action will be Thursday night as they take part in the Carroll Jamboree. North Delta will take on Indianola at 6 p.m. followed by Marshall at 7:30
