‘How do you shoplift tires?’ judge asks defendant

Two defendants charged with simple assault at the Huddle House on July 21 entered not guilty pleas to Judge Bill McKenzie during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.

George Gross, 2881 Terza Rd., Batesville, and Calvin Ales Jr., 91 Pegues Rd., Batesville, both entered not guilty pleas to assaulting Gary Howard at the Huddle House.

Gross entered a not guilty plea to injuring Howard by striking him with a fist while Ales entered a not guilty plea to holding Howard down and kicking him.

A trial was set for September 5.

Jada Mayer, 525 Morris Lane, Batesville, had a trial set for August 15 for shoplifting second offense and old fines of $1,402.

Hannah Crawford, 4212 Hwy. 35 North, Charleston, had a case for prescription forgery bound over to the grand jury.

Tyrowone Kimble, 103 Davis St., Coffeeville, entered a not guilty plea to telephone harassment. A trial was set for September 19.

Antonio Blakes, Pope, failed to appear for leaving the scene of an accident.

Markeevan Ford, 274-C Morrow Rd., Courtland, entered the city’s work program in lieu of paying $429 for possession of controlled substance.

Courtney Knight, 1660 Bell Rd., Courtland, entered a guilty plea to simple possession of marijuana. She was fined $429.

Rapheal Larry, 237 Parker Rd., Pope, entered a not guilty plea to false information. A trial was set.

Corey Wright, 214 Tubbs, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for August 15.

Yolanda Smallie, 2053 Seven Rd., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault. A trial was set for September 5.

James Blackburn, 1475 Hadorn, Batesville, had a simple assault by threat case dismissed after the affiant, Rebecca Blackburn failed to appear to prosecute.

Brenda Hankins, 347 Mosier Rd., Enid, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault by threat. A trial was set for August 15.

Robert Thacker, 21187 Hwy. 6 Batesville, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting by taking two tires worth $118. He was fined $1,133.

John Morgan, 2192 Teasdale Rd., Enid, also entered a guilty plea to shoplifting two tires from Wal-Mart worth $118. He also had old fines of $390 for domestic violence-simple assault and failure to appear for court in July 2010.

“I was in jail,” he explained for his reason for not coming to court.

“How do you shoplift two tires?” the judge asked.

“Well, that’s my nephew,” Morgan said as he pointed at Thacker.

“He walked out with the tires in the buggy. I had my groceries on top. They rang everything up but the tires,” Morgan said.

“It doesn’t pay to steal,” McKenzie said.

Casey Gross, 508 Franklin St., Sardis, had a case dismissed for shoplifting after Dollar General failed to appear to prosecute.

Bruce Tunson, 586 Rockhill, Sardis, had a case for driving while license suspended remanded to the files.

Dennis T. Rudd, 109 Hoskins, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply and resisting arrest. A trial was set for August 22.

Scotty Thomas, 317-D Patton Lane, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply. A trial was set for August 22.

Tickets

Tanya M. Davis, 929 Charles Ave., Lexington, Ky., was fined $205 for no proof of insurance. She was given a lower fine after proving she purchased insurance after the ticket was issued.

Sally Mae Cole, 415 Sixth Street, Batesville, had a no proof of insurance charge dismissed after she provided proof.

Tamika Ann Hamilton, 1708 Harrison St., Memphis, was fined $470 for loud music and no driver’s license.

Stacy Boyee, was fined $106 for no tag and $711 for no proof of insurance.
