Deon Mix was the 22nd player from South Panola to make the 2012 Clarion-Ledger’s Dandy Dozen players in the state. Mix was chosen the 11th of the top 12 giving South Panola the record for most players named from any school in the state.
The 17-year-old offensive lineman weighs in at 315 pounds and stands 6’5” and is the fifth lineman to be selected this year and the fifth one that has verbally committed to Mississippi State University.
Mix decided in June to take his athletic abilities to the Bulldog program because he felt that was the place for him. This past weekend he made an appearance on campus once again attending the Big Dawg camp in addition to the other camps he has attended this summer.
A young kid that’s full of personality and always has a smile on his face said he likes the campus and its surroundings so he plans to make the best of it all when getting there.
“I always knew I wanted to go there. I like the coaches, the school, the campus and the fans also.”
But with football on his mind he knows his education tops his list. Mix tries to do his best in the classroom, currently having a 3.0 grade point average and he made 17 on his ACT.
