White car, possibly Monte Carlo missing left headlight, sought

Authorities are looking for white car, possibly a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, whose driver is believed to have struck and killed a 61-year-old pedestrian on Highway 310, five or six miles east of Como Sunday morning.

The car will be missing its left front headlight, and the rear window may be shattered, Panola County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Bill McGee said. There may also be other damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, he said.

Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge said that Johnny Lee Butts died after being struck as he walked along Highway 310 year Blue Room Road.

“Ever who did this, we need to find them,” Grant-Gulledge said.

McGee said family members told him that walking was part of Butts’ morning routine. McGee said the investigation leads him to believe the car was eastbound when it struck the pedestrian, also believed eastbound, between 6 and 7 a.m.

Anyone with information about the car and its driver is urged to contact McGee at 662-563-6230.

(Editor’s note: An earlier Internet posting incorrectly stated Butts’ age.)
