BATESVILLE – Patricia “Trish” Pruett Baggett, 70, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Baggett, born March 9, 1942, to Anna Belle Jobe Pruett of Sparta, Tenn. and the late Arthur D. Pruett Sr., in Memphis, was a homemaker and a member of Hosanna Family Worship Center.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her daughter, Christy Hemenway of Winter Haven, Fla.; two sons, Kevin Adams of El Paso, Texas and Louis Moore of Clovis, New Mexico; one brother, Carl E. Pruett of Cookeville and eight grandchildren.
BATESVILLE – Annie Hanks Dettor, 77, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Joshua Heath Warren, Rev. Craig Warren and Rev. Tim McMillen will officiate. Burial will follow in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Dettor, born Sept. 5, 1934, in Lafayette County, to the late Arthur and Cordelia Anderson Hanks, was a retired daycare owner and member of Shady Grove Baptist Church near Batesville.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Dettor Warren of Senatobia and Mary Dettor Reeder of Sardis; three sons, Joe Dettor of Sardis and Mike Dettor of Batesville and Robert Dettor of Jackson; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
BATESVILLE – Panola native Ronald Lewis Elmore, 64, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Spring Gate Nursing Home in Memphis.
Born January 24, 1948 in Sardis to the late Clarence and Louise Elmore, he was a 1966 graduate of South Panola High Schooland attended Northwest Mississippi Community College.
His high school classmates gave him the nickname “Prophet” that most of them would continue to use for the rest of his life. Elmore was an U. S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969.
No memorial is planned.
Survivors include his daughter, Seglinda Haggarty, and grandchildren, Jersey, Paxon and Finley Haggarty of Alburtis, Penn.; two brothers, Bill Elmore of Batesville and Jim Elmore of Crowder, and a host of nieces and nephews.
BATESVILLE– Ella Jones Milam, 99, died at her home on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Curtis Union Church today at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Phillip Tillman of Statesville, N.C.; Rev. Martin Case of Oxford, and Rev. John Howell Jr. of Batesville, with music rendered by Charlie Dulany, Arlie Dulany and Paul Thaggard.
Interment will be at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Milam was born March 19, 1913, in Charleston to the late George G. and Lillian Cook Jones. She was the widow of Ernest Robert Milam.
She and her husband moved to the Curtis Community in 1929.
Mrs. Milam was a homemaker and worked part-time at Farm Bureau for several years. She was active in Extension club work and in 1980 she received a 50-year service award pin. She also worked with the Panola Heart Association and in many other community activities.
She was instrumental in founding the ELC Water Association and served on its board until 2009.
She along with other women of the Curtis Community formed “The Curtis Quilters” and produced more than 100 quilts.
Mrs. Milam was a charter member of Curtis Union Church where she taught Sunday School and served as church treasurer for a number of years.
Her son, Alton, died in 2000 and in 2005 she lost a great grandson, Lee Henley.
She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Thaggard, of Batesville; three grandchildren, Barbara Milam Creasy of Lakeland, Tenn.; Beverly Milam Henley of Athens, Ala.; Paul Thaggard of Waterloo, Ill.; nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Curtis Union Church, 3115 Curtis-Locke Station Road, Batesville, MS 38606.
COMO – Jennie Lue Milton, 106, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Tunica Nursing Home.
Services will be held Saturday at Hunters Chapel M.B. Church near Como, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home has charge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Milton.
She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
BATESVILLE – James Carmel Wright, 88, died Sunday, July 8, 2012, at his residence.Services were held Wednesday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Cemetery in Batesville. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Wright was born to the late Henry Wright and Bessie Mae Henry Wright. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a farmer and worked for Poloron until his retirement.
Survivors include: his wife, Odell Still Wright of Batesville; two daughters, Peggy Sue Wright Burnett of Batesville and Robbie Jo Wright Haley of Courtland; three sons, James Gregory Wright of Sardis, Norris Ray Wright Sr. of Abbeville, and Melvin Wade “Bo” Wright of Hernando; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
CHARLESTON – Dave Ralph Carpenter Sr., age 76, retired maintenance supervisor at Parchman, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at Tallahatchie General ECF. He was the brother of Bessie Mae Doubleday of Batesville.
Rev. Shelly Scallions and Rev. Daniel Baggett will conduct services today at 10 a.m. at the Womble Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Interment will be at Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Paynes, Miss., with the Air Force performing the flag ceremony.
A member Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy, he was a veteran of the Air Force. Born June 3, 1936, in Coffeeville, he was the son of the Hubert Ernest Carpenter and Susie Irene Milam Carpenter.
Survivors, in addition to his sister in Batesville, include his son, Dave Ralph Carpenter Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio; his sister Madge Smith of Senatobia; his brother Jack Carpenter of Charleston; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
His son, Aubrey Dean Carpenter, preceded him in death.
SARDIS – Pamela Diane Wright, 39, died Sunday, July 8, 2012.
Services were held Thursday at Dickins Funeral Home. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Survivors include: one son, Gregory D. Wright of Sardis; parents, Gregory Wright and Susan Wright of Sardis; grandmother, Odell Wright of Batesville.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
