Maxine Marie Daniel

HOULKA – Maxine Marie Daniel, 89, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at Graceland Nursing Home in Pontotoc. She was the mother of Frances D. Benson of Pope

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce with Rev. Pete Gregory and Rev. Erin Grant officiating. Burial followed in Robbs Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Daniel, born October 22, 1922 in Houlka to the late John Edward Brown and Claudia Dorothy Ferguson Brown, was a homemaker and a member of Robbs United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband J. C. Daniel.

Survivors in addition to her daughter include: daughter, Dorothy D. Busby of Oxford; one son Carl B. Daniel of Houlka; one sister Polly Liles of Houlka; one brother Edd Brown of Pontotoc; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bette D. Sanders

SARDIS – Bette D. Sanders, 89, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at her son’s residence in Arlington, Tenn.

Graveside services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – noon prior to services. Rev. Dana Goff  will officiate. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has charge.

Sanders, born Sept. 26, 1922, in Virginia, to the late Clarence and Grace Davis, was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Leroy Sanders and one son, Max Sanders.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Baldwin of Sarasota, Fla. and one son, Bill Sanders of Arlington; one sister, Ruby Dye of Knoxville; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Tommy Deloise Burkes West

SARDIS – Tommy Deloise Burkes West, 101, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at her residence.

Services were held Thursday at Sardis United Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home had charge.

West was born July 29, 1910, in Scott County, to the late Etta Burkes Sims. She was a dining manager at Walthall Hotel in Jackson. She was a board member and long time patron of The Panola Playhouse and the Heflin House.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Q. West who was also 101 when he passed in 1993.

She was preceded in death by two step-daughters: Josephine Waldrup and Marjorie W. Sawyer.

Survivors include: four grandchildren, Sheri Salley of Madison, Rick Sawyer of Daphne, Ala., Jody Waldrup of Franklin, Tenn. and Joy Cobb of Fitchburg, Wis.; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
