Letter to the editor
I want to thank The Panolian for the article, “SP terminated cheer sponsor, alleges ‘mismanaged’ monies” (June 22, 2012).
After many rumors, I appreciate having facts. I cheered for South Panola for a total of six years and served as captain of the squad my senior year. During that time, Tammy Wilkinson was as present in my life as my immediate family. I respected her like a parent, and thought of her like a second mother– that is until last Friday’s article.
I worked hard for Ms. Tammy for six long years, six of my favorite years as well. I am really hurt because of what I read last week.
I realize that Ms. Wilkinson was “terminated,” but after all of the years of respect and hard work so many girls and their parents put into the program, I would expect a good-bye, an apology, and a great explanation for what The Panolian presented to us.
I think that after paying respect to someone for so many years, she owes a little in return, especially after the “mismanagement” reported.
Regardless of Ms. Tammy’s actions, I know that the cheer program will continue to shine while teaching girls hard work, teamwork, self-respect, and leadership.
With that being said, I want to thank Sara Helen Ware and Trey Griffin for their honesty and the dedication they are instilling in the SP cheerleaders. I see a very bright future in the success of the South Panola competitive cheer program with new leadership and sponsorship.
