Enid Lake – Gwin Jackson, well-known angler, fishing guide and hand-tied jig maker was recently diagnosed with stage four liver cancer and his friends have scheduled several fundraisers to help with his mounting medical bills.
He operates Jackson’s Guide Service, which was started in 2000 on Enid Lake, where Jackson has fished for the past 38 years. He produces hand-tied jigs under the Jiggy With It brand name.
On Friday, June 29, there will be a fish fry benefit in Clarksdale with pickup from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lee Academy. Plates are $10 and information is available from Emily Meredith at (662) 902-9800.
Next month, July 28, the Lions Club of Batesville will have a BBQ plate dinner at 6 p.m. ($7 per plate) and a live and silent auction beginning at 7 p.m. They will also have Boston butts for $25 with pick-up starting at 5 p.m. For information contact Byron Tedford at (662) 934-0887.
On August 4 there will be a benefit auction at Southern Voice Auction in Marks beginning at 4 p.m. Donations are being accepted from friends and businesses for items to be auctioned (old power tools, small household appliances, etc.). Bank accounts have been set up at the First National Bank of Clarksdale and at BancorpSouth in Batesville for donations. Checks can be made payable to Friends of Gwin Jackson and BancorpSouth requests that those making donations come into the bank.
