David G. Barber


OXFORD – Mr. David G. Barber, 57, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Memorial services will be announced later by the Barber family. Wells Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Barber was born December 17, 1954 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oslow, N.C. to George Dewey Barber and Sheila Ann Grindrod Barber now of Oxford.

Survivors include two sisters, Sherry Barber Brown of Calhoun City and Kimberlee Barber of Lavernge, Texas; two brothers, Gary Barber of Bolivar, Tenn. and Scott Barber of Harpenden, England.


Lester Cooper


BATESVILLE – Lester Cooper, 63, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.  

Services were held Thursday at West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Gerome Battle officiated.  Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Cooper, born March 3, 1949, in Batesville, to Charlie E. Cooper and Mable Sparks Cooper, was a member of  West Camp M.B. Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Pope, Carolyn Armstrong and Trixy Jones, all of Batesville; one son, Anthony Pope of Lambert; five sisters, Gloria Love and Charlene Rogers, both of Detroit, Mich., Madistean Cooper, Mattie Cooper and Mable Johnigan, all of Batesville; two brothers, Thomas Cooper of Batesville and Larry Cooper of Detroit, Mich. and four grandchildren.

Martha Louise Beard Reed


BATESVILLE – Martha Louise Beard Reed, 61, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at her residence.

Services were held Wednesday, May 16, at Wells Funeral Home with interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Thomas Beard officiated. Wells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Reed was born on March 15, 1951 in Batesville, to James Edward “Foots” and Ester Louise Daugherty Beard. She was a professional hair stylist who had worked at Durhams Hair Salon for the past 20 years. She was a member of Courtland Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Eddie Ray Reed, Jr. of Walls and two brothers, Larry Gene Beard and wife Pat and Albert Lee and wife Anne Beard, all of Courtland.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to The Panola County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1756, Batesville, MS 38606.
