A 74-year-old man from Nebraska was killed by gunshots early Tuesday morning on Interstate 55, authorities have said.Panola coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge identified the shooting victim as a white male from Nebraska.
She did not release his name because some family members have yet to be identified.

The homicide occurred about 1:40 a.m. at the Pope-Courtland exit south of Batesville.

A spokesman for the Miss. Highway Patrol told a Memphis news station the man was traveling southbound when approximately five shots were fired.

The man was alone when his automobile crashed into a divider in the median.

Miss. Bureau of Investigations was overseeing the scene of the shooting Tuesday morning, with assistance from the Panola County Sheriff’s Department.
